Pours a deep dark amber with a nice khaki head. Nice retention from it for a barrel aged beer. Aroma provides a nice shot of Irish Whiskey paired with some caramel, roastiness that brings out chocolate tones. and a touch of fruit. Flavor provides some nice balance of the barrel, providing some upfront whiskey, and beer which provides caramel, fruit, roastiness, chocolate. The barrel does a great job drying things out so there really isn't too much sweetness going on in this thing, as ambers often contain. A medium bodied mouthfeel, not much activity, making this one a sipper and slow(ish) drinker. Overall, fantastic beer from Verboten here. Hands down the best thing I have tried from them and one of my favorite reds/ambers that I have yet to try. Would love to drink this again, hope they brew another batch of this and make it available in bottle format.
