a fantastic variant of their gose, featuring coffee and lemon, a strange combination of flavors for a beer like this, but a really successful one! it doesnt look like much, no real color to it from the coffee, and not a lot of head from the tap. aroma is striking, anything but subtle, its zesty fresh lemon and lots of it, along with a rich roasted coffee that has some milk chocolate aromatic to it, and then the sourness, which is a mid range lacto effort. the flavor is as pungent and the nose, tons of coffee and lemon, very espresso-like on the coffee, concentrated and dark with a ripe fruitiness about it. amazingly fresh lemon feeds into the acidity, and there is still some malted wheat underneath, an awesome mix of flavors and textures, and it finishes dry. it is a little flat, more carbonation would be a great add, but the flavors here are fantastic, both really bold, but incredible together. i wasnt sure this would work in a gose, but it really does. the cleaner lactic aspect helps, as does the salt, which is subtle but unifying in here. i thought this beer was both inventive and well executed, and verboten continues to stay well ahead of the small brewery curve in terms of quality!
