On tap at Wicks Brewing Company in Riverside, CA.

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight coffee aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that smells nice but has a better roasty and cocoa presence in the flavor.

Generously offered by the folks of Wick's, served on-tap at the source. On to the beer:

A little lace is left around of this black as ink beer. If you like the aroma of smoked chocolate, then this is your beach. Simply a lovely smokiness that I could smell for awhile. Taste arrives and at first tastes like hot chocolate and cocoa. The smokiness arrives to cut the sweetness and add a crucial layer to the beer. Still, it ends up a little more sweet than smokey. There's also seems to be a creamy oat note, even though oats may note even be used in the beer. It's medium-full bodied and smooth, and its alcohol is hidden well given it's 8.5%. Despite being a warm day, this was my favorite of the three Wick's that I tried.
