Tried this per a BA recommendation and I'm glad I did!
Arrives as a deep brown color with rosewood highlights. There's a little head, but not too much. Still, it laces the snifter they provided rather well.
The flavors are a wonderful mix of sour cherries, fresh tobacco, peppery yeast, aged balsamic vinegar, cranberries, molasses, and brown sugar. Good stuff for sure!
It's sour, but not too sour to keep you from wanting to drink a ton of it.
No clue if they're bringing this back (they were running low on 3/20/09) but this is an all-star if they do!

Tasted on saturday March 14th 2009.

It comes in a snifter(US$7.25) a very dark brown with some red hues and a small head of foam but lots of lacing.

The smell is big sour cherry notes with some earthy malt tones. Maybe more than cherries are bringing the sourness..

The taste is, again, big sour with easily recognizable cherries headlining but I sensed another fruit here as well. Raspberries? Me thinks so and as I looked at the description on their menu, that *is* confirmed. The malt shows up in the taste with some earthy and bready notes somewhat cutting into, not too much mind you, the sour factor. Yum. I even sense a sherry-like taste here and being wood aged, that comes as a welcome non surprise. ;^)

Light bodied and medium carbonated, it made for a very nice mouthfeel.

Drinkability? The only thing holding this puppy back from a perfect 5 is the price but hell....a lot of time & effort was put into this brew so I think what I got charged was not unreasonable. This is one crazy good example of the style and is *very* drinkable. Better get some before it's gone!
