473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $3.25 CDN.
Appearance - Slightly hazy fairly light golden brew. A finger and a half of light white head sits on top and stays for a decen duration. Not much lacing or visible carbonation.
Smell - Cantaloupe, orange maybe mango and possibly rhubarb? Aromatics aren't too intense and steer away from heavy citrus aromas.
Taste - Not sure if its stale hops, but I'm getting some grapefruit pith, some melon, or cantaloupe sweetness and not much else. Possibly candied fruit of some sort. Resiny is a good way to describe the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, carbonation light and finish is dry - probably a bit too dry.
Overall - A passable IPA, but lacks the big citrus pop that many local breweries integrate nicely. It doesn't have to be citrus, but everyone uses it because those flavors work so well together.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 20 2019 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy golden-blonde hue, starting out with one finger of soapy, foamy white head that settles off within the next three minutes or so. In its place, a bubbly collar is left surrounding a filmy cap, with a splotchy coat of lacing also having been applied; looks fine to me, like a typical IPA. On the nose, I'm getting some earthy, herbal, woodsy hop notes underneath muted notes of white grapefruit, berries and cantaloupe. Suggestions of gritty, grainy pale malts are easy to miss; in fact, the overall bouquet is really much too subdued to hold my interest for long.
A serviceable, no frills IPA. Gritty grains and a light biscuity sweetness sum up the entirety of the malt profile, with the hops doing pretty much all of the real legwork - the problem is I'm getting too much of that herbal, earthy bitterness for my liking, and not quite enough of the fruity melon or the grapefruit pith. It remains herbal and resiny into the back end, with a touch of cantaloupe persisting alongside the earthy, floral bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that impart a gentle prickliness upon the surface of the palate. Easy enough to drink, but I wouldn't want seconds - those Comet hops just aren't doing it for me.
Final Grade: 3.62, a B grade. Forked River's Interstellar IPA isn't a total disaster, but I wouldn't call the mission a complete success, either. Staleness is not the issue, as this can is less than 3 weeks old. The truth is that these guys do make some pretty great brews across a variety of styles... but their portfolio has always lacked a rock solid, standard issue IPA, and I don't think Interstellar is good enough to be a long-term solution to that problem. Their KO Punch was a better pale ale IMO, and their milkshake IPAs are also worth a try, but I figure that this particular brew is just going to blend into the crowd.
