We partnered up with Logan Couture, Captain of the San Jose Sharks to bring you LoCo, our new Kveik Hazy IPA. This delectable Hazy IPA is a juicy and balanced mix of citrus hops that bring out the aromatic characteristics of papaya and mango and finishes with a hint of lime.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. No date stamp or lot number. My 7th beer from the London, Ontario brewery, and 5th for 2025. Recommended by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 13 2021, listed at 5.5% and served slightly chilled. This was originally a collaboration beer with Logan Couture and Hapa's Brewing in San Jose.
Pours a hazy, pale apricot-yellow colour, sporting half a finger of loose, soapy white foam that collapses within ninety seconds or so. An arcing band of lacing is splattered about behind it, with a tight, creamy collar and filmy cap remaining in place - looks fine to me. Smells of earthy, herbal, woodsy hops and gritty wheat husks, with faint suggestions of indeterminate fruit - I'm leaning towards something like passion fruit or papaya.
Not a big fan - it's drinkable, but there's more about this beer that I dislike than vice versa. I'm still getting that earthy, woodsy note, with gritty, grainy pale malts and wheatiness underneath. Fruitier suggestions of papaya, grapefruit and mango crop up soon thereafter, with a touch of tartness at the conclusion of the sip; lingering hints of earthy, weedy resin and tropical fruit into the aftertaste. Light-medium in body, with aggressive carbonation that prickles the palate continuously throughout the sip; feels crisp, but maybe a little overcarbed IMO. Finishing the can won't present a problem, but I doubt I'll remember it fondly.
Final Grade: 3.41, a B-. I dislike stating that LoCo is one of the crummier IPAs I've had in recent months, but that's basically my impression of it after this sampling - not very juicy at all, with a prominent earthy, weedy weirdness that I don't particularly enjoy (and is borderline out of place for the style anyhow). I'll give it another chance if I spot a fresher can, though I really don't think two months is *that* old, even for an IPA. To be fair, it was sitting on an unrefrigerated shelf at the store, so who knows - sometimes these hazy brews are just fragile.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.60 CDN. Canned April 21, 2021. Listed at 5.5% ABV.
Appearance - Rather hazy, apricot colored beer with a half finger of head that is poured on top and recedes very slowly. Some small sediment particles spill out into the glass as well.
Smell - Somewhat tropical nose, but more papaya and mixed with some low growing berries like elderberry. Hints of peach maybe too. Unusual but pleasing enough.
Taste - Some tropical (read mango) aspects, with underlying berry fruitiness. Somewhat sour and hints plenty of weedy, herbal and earthy bitterness kind of amalgamated into one with the bitterness only turned up to 7.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, slightly softer carbonation than average, fleshy feel to the beer before a slight drying finish.
Overall - Not sure what to make of this beer; it's IPA-ish with aspects of a sour or tart beer and some nice fruit elements. Worth a try but not an IPA I'd return to on the regular.
