Poured from a 1pt 9oz wax-sealed bottle into a flute. Dark reddish brown, almost tea-colored, slightly hazy; topped by a two finger tall tan head that rather quickly falls to a film. Lacing is light and spotty.
Nosing yields lots of yeast-y notes- banana, baking bread. Also some dark fruits (dried cherries, prunes) and apricot. Somewhat reminiscent of a strong Belgian in character.
Flavors are sweet up front- demerara sugar, cherries, banana. Some of the darker fruit notes come in after, followed by a gradually increasing bread-like malt character and soft grains accompanied by a slightly tart yeast bite. This eventually makes way for a long, drying finish with lingering bittersweet flavors on the palate.
Mouth-feel is medium bodied and smooth. Carbonation is moderate and a bit fizzy, as is typical of wheat beers. Alcohol is present but well-controlled at 7.8 percent, lending a gentle warmth.
Sunken City has a very good beer here that falls ever-so-short of true classic status by virtue of needing just a bit more of a body to support its very nicely complex flavor profile. Even with that said, I'd certainly drink this again if I can find more of this limited edition... the taste is almost as delicious as the irony drinking a German-style wheat Bock named in honor of an all-female Russian bomber unit that terrorized the Germans during WWII (the titular Nachthexen, or "Night-Witches," as the Germans dubbed them.) What a crazy world this is, sometimes.

Appearance: pours a reddish brown, almost leathery color. a two finger tannish head with good retention and leaving behind a slight lacing. pretty much opaque do to the darkness, but some nice strong brightness when held to the light.
Smell: clove and banana yeast, dark fruits ranging from prune to cherry, light brown sugar to molasses.
Taste: opens up with a hint of cherry. yeast takes over and gives of equal notes of banana and clove. a little bit of brown sugar comes through before give way to some more dark fruits this time more along the lines of prunes. rich bready malts and some toasted malts. there is an occasional tart fruit flavor that comes across. And I couldn't quite place this at first but as another reviewer pointed out there is a little bit of lemon juice in the flavor.
Mouthfeel: lighter body, with some lingering sweetness and yeast. really falls short of the chewy full bodied beer this should be.
Overall: some really nice character and flavor but this beer really falls short in the mouthfeel which to me is one of the key characteristics of the style. otherwise a very nice beer.

Bottle:
The nose came across with hints of banana as I poured this dark brown, seeming almost burgundy in the light at the edges. The look has an enticing fuzziness to it, strangely. Head isn't much (a finger at most) but it does sit atop the beer for a while.
Nose is dark brown sugar (even molasses at times), banana, prune, maybe some dark sweet cherry.
The taste hits with more or the cherry than the sugar/dark fruit - although those come along shortly after. Definitely some bready notes, and there is a yeasty tang that could have given a banana nose, but doesn't give the flavor as much. The bready notes follow the fruit instead of the reverse. At times there is a light "squeeze of lemon" tartness accent over the fruits.
After the first few sips, the strength of the flavors seem to fade a bit. This may be caused by the one failed component of this beer, the feel. The flavors beg for a deeper body, and a more chewy feel. It's just not there to support the beer, and it's a bit of a shame.
This beer is close to being an interesting to even solid beer. I would be willing to give it a shot again if they remake it (especially if I know they tweaked the recipe a tad).

Touted by the brewery as a German wheat bock. Named for the 588th Russian regiment composed entirely of women ages 20-27, who flew 30,000 nighttime missions into enemy territories. The Germans grew terrified of these missions and named the women Nachthexen, or night witches.
Pours a rather dark brown, with a near 2 finger tan head with light lacing. Somewhat translucent when held up to a bright light. Almost grapey in appearance.
Aroma of bananas and cloves with chocolate and caramel.
Taste of tart wheat with more banana and clove. Chocolate again with big caramel at times. The tart character along with a taste of alcohol contribute to give a rather wine-like impression.
Fairly thick, call it medium full. Syrupy and sticky. Good retention. Mostly creamy and smooth with light to moderate carbonation.
This brew gets better as it warms. It's extremely well balanced, and tasty. Superb!
