Special Cargo Wet-Hopped Belgian Red Ale

wet hopped huh? they could have stood to dose it more aggressively i think, but the concept is great. a mild belgian yeast strain, the palest side of red on the malt, and effervescent carbonation under a honey textured sweet hop complexion. the whole thing is well designed, it really is, but when i get a wet hopped beer, i want that to stare back at me, to be the most obvious element of the beer. here, its lost a little to balance, nothing stands out really. its a testament to the brewers, but save some normal hops for that. really light caramel color, hardly red at all, but holding a nice hald inch of thick white head. it smells like belgian yeast and northwest hops, high alpha and high ester, it doesnt always, but it works well here. the flavor is all pretty mild and again, more wet hops would make this special. i like where sanitas is going though, and it seems they have a rather loyal following, which is cool for a new and small operation. i will keep trying their stuff, this was cool but not incredible.
