APPEARANCE: Burnt Orange with a pillowy, foamy, stark white head. The head is stable and rises about a finger and a half above the surface of the beer in a 14 oz. tulip glass. The liquid itself is slightly hazy and just dark enough to make it tough to see the bubbly action beneath the surface. Lacing is sticky, lumpy, and thorough on the back side of the glass.
SMELL: Big orange aroma with a mildly dank, hoppy, piney note. I had to take a couple whiffs of this one cause it smells delicious. Not getting much pepper from the pink peppercorns.
TASTE: Oh, there's the peppercorn...on the back end of the first sip it's there, adding a nice spicy flavor to the orange and more-bitter-than-I-expected hop backbone. Malt balances out the bitterness from the hops nicely, but this is less malt than I've had from other Sanitas beers. Also, as the beer warms a nice, coriander flavor is making a stronger and stronger appearance on the back end.
MOUTHFEEL: The mild malt sweetness at the front quickly gives way to a dry, hoppy finish. The fairly strong sparkle emphasizes the hop character and makes this feel more light and refreshing than it otherwise might.
OVERALL: This will be in my fridge this summer. A nice dose of hops with some refreshing, summer ingredients.
