Caramel color and flavor. Great high ABV. Solid Gran Cru. Sweet, as fits the style.

fun beer here, you never see stuff like this in cans at all. its deep caramel to red in color with a short off white head on top. smells like a belgian dubbel from a grain base standpoint, i get the richness and the dried fruity elements of that style, but the yeast doesnt smell belgian to me, more english, sort of bready and maybe bringing some tannic properties in. sweet like brown sugar too it smells, and even a little smoke in there. the flavor is rich too, very very sweet, brown sugar for sure, and the fruity flavors are great, raisin and fig and candied nut, lots going on, well hidden alcohol kick too. no smoke there at all despite the aroma. i like the flavors here a lot, but the mouthfeel isnt quite right for the style, its carbonated appropriately, but there really isnt enough body for whats going on. its not watery, but its thin for all this flavor and sugar. overall a tasty brew, absolutely something uncommon, especially in a can. not my favorite type of beer, but an inventive and well made one. these guys dont get enough credit around town i dont think...

Quad in a can! ok- no biggie, 10% ABV. I'm sure the can is a great option for aging this bad boy, which may need some time to really round out anyway.
L: Ruby red and light brown. Light carbonation. Head does not linger or leave any lacing, which is a little detracting. Clear.
S: boozy nose, feint malt and sugar. Lots of fruity esters. no hop presence
T: Really boozy up front, maybe too much. Alcohol is very present, and not just in a way that it adds complexity to the beer. it is definitely a little hot and heady. Plum and dark fruits typical of a Belgian strong dark. The yeast does not add a ton of complexity or flavor, but there are some esters there. The beer has sort of a grainy character to it, almost as if atypical malts are being used, like grainer American malts rather than lighter, sweeter Belgian malts like Belgian pilsner.
F: medium bodied, low carbonation
O: Overall the beer accomplishes what it is meant to- this is a strong dessert sipper. It could maybe round out with some extended aging, but is hot and too boozy to really take it to the next level. Maybe some fermentation flaws or too hot of a fermentation is present here. Overall decent but not great.
