this was the worst beer I had at stout fest. Pure liquefied ginger.

Served in a nonic pint glass.
It's a Christmas party (of sorts), so where would we be without a sort of Christmas-themed beer? This stuff pours a very dark black-brown topped by a finger of ashen khaki foam. The nose comprises mild roasted malts, cocoa powder, toasted pumpernickel, clove, brown sugar, light mace, and a hint of treacle. The taste brings in more of the same, though the pumpernickel now comes through more as blackened gingerbread. There's a slightly bitter pinch near the finish, presumably from the spices all converging upon one another with the bread, roast, and treacle. The body is a stolid medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a very solid and pretty tasty beer, one that worked well amidst the holiday cheer of this particular get-together.
