Reviewed from notes. Tasted on tap at the brewery in December, 2012.
A - Color is a deep, rich brown; appears very red when held up to light. Perfect clarity. Head is linen-colored and looks smooth and creamy. It was thick and long-lasting. Great lacing. This beer could not be any more attractive.
S - The major aroma component is from earthy, nutty noble hops. Malt is in the background, but I got some bready notes. A subtle spiciness that reminds me of gingerbread. Very clean aroma. No overt alcohol or yeast aromas.
T - Very balanced. Noble hops with an emphasis on wood and nuts. The hops flavors are complemented by biscuity malt (could be Munich style). A low brown sugar sweetness mid-palate, but it transforms into a very dry, clean finish. As it warmed I got a tiny bit of butterscotch, but it complemented the other flavors.
M - Light to medium body. Smooth, crisp carbonation. Moderate hops bitterness mostly felt in the finish.A tiny bit of alcohol presence.
O - A very nice beer. Restrained and subtle; extremely clean and balanced. A great example of the style and very enjoyable.
