250ml pour at the brewery.
Pours clear, dark amber, finger of dense creamy head. Not much active carbonation. Smell is toasted nuts, toasted bread, maybe a hint of chocolate and burnt sugar. Taste is much roastier than I expected, earthy, still nuts and toast but little remains of the toffee and bread. Fairly hoppy/earthy bitterness. Mouthfeel is light, clean, smooth. Overall, interesting and nice.

grainy,grassy,nutty,faint caramel,plums and raisins
T:
-caramel,toffee,fairly hoppy w a slightly roasty finish

Reminds me somewhat of a toned-down Brown ale,but with a light & clean lager character.
Good.

this old traditional Rotbier from the ratsherrn craft brewery in hamburg is a real rarity in Germany. it looks like an classic Altbier, dark red with solid head, but has a lighter mouthfeel. nevertheless it smells and tasts malty with an aftertase of balanced hops. enjoy!
