Yes, it has been a while (I’ve been working a non-beer related project) anyway it’s time to review again and today I’m playing catch-up on the beers sitting in the old fridge door- so prepare for a few weird and wild Moon Dog’s, and this Edge Brewing Project Cherry Popper Tart Ale. Today is about cherries, marmalade, celery and tomato... yep it’s one of those crazy days - strap on your seat belt because you’re going for a ride dear reader!
Poured from a 330ml bottle into a Chimay chalice.
A: An intriguing yeast-speckled Guava pink... never seen a beer this shade before... with a thin pink-hued white lace ring - I give it a 10/10 for intrigue, which translates to an: 8/10.
S: Aroma is sour cherry pie - hmmm, nice, there’s a hint of sweetness in there as well, along with a hint of cherry-flavoured cough syrup towards the end. The overall aroma is mouth-wateringly tart - you know when you breath in something sour and your tongue salivates, I’m getting that. Good. I expect this is what the brewer was aiming for - mission accomplished. 8/10.
T: Watery... needs more flavour, but refreshing nonetheless with a tart cherry touch upfront. Not much else going on - this needs a counterpoint to the sour with some sweetness... or even bitterness. This doesn’t even taste like a beer really, more like a sour cherry soda drink. 5/10.
M: Light bodied with a light tiny dense carbonation going on. Suits the overall wateriness of this drink which I imagine would work well on a hot summers day. 5/10.
D: Well I wasn’t sold on the overall vibe of this brew, it’s too watery, a bit bland and lacking in flavour complexity. This is a missed opportunity by Edge Brewing Project in a now highly saturated craft beer market. If you’re looking for a refreshing and decent cherry beer you can’t go past the comparatively priced Petrus Aged Red (which ironically enough has an opposite problem to this: too much flavour) a brew I quite enjoyed despite the intense cherry characters. 5/10.
Food match: Something salady and slightly creamy... russian salad with grilled chicken and potato salad.

Pours hazy mauve with a small head.
Nose shows soft cherry, doughy wheat and some cardboard notes.
Very restrained flavours. Some more cardboard-like malt and very soft cherry. Hardly any acidity.
Feels watery.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
