From the can it pours a hazy golden orange color. A large moussy head displays excellent retention and lacing.

An odd and slightly funky aroma opens things up, lightly tart with notes of lemon. Yet it is mostly fleeting, as it is followed by typical Hefeweizen aromas of orange peel and clove. Furthermore, the developing nose of banana and doughy wheat adds a sweetness.

Medium bodied with a smooth and soft mouthfeel, yet the carbonation is lively. Lots of citrusy flavors add zest to the palate and a crispness to the finish. Solid bready and doughy soft wheat backbone whose sweet flavors open up further into the drink. Well balanced by peppery spices and cloves.

Solid Hefeweizen that is easy to drink.

Man, I am wildly behind on The CANQuest (tm) if this one came to me from y local, in-person trader, @tone77 ! Part of the problem, beyond simply my massive backlog, is that this has to rank among my least-favorite styles, making it easy to shunt off to the side. 8=( Mea culpa.

From the CAN: "Proudly brewed on the shores of the Choptank River in Cambridge[,] Maryland"; "Unfiltered Wheat Ale"; "Saving the Bay One Beer at a Time"; "Groove City Est 2013".

Once I Crack!ed open the vent, I could not think of any reason NOT to go with a full-on inverted Glug into the awaiting glass. It was an unfiltered ale that is meant to be cloudy so away I went! I quickly realized that I was overamping as the head came roaring up to form two-plus fingers of foamy, soapy, rocky, bone-white head with reasonable retention. Color was a cloudy, murky Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose smelled heavily of my arch nemesis - banana! I love bananas, but in beer it hits me wrong. It is well within the specs for the style, but knowing that clove esters CAN be teased out & how to do it, I just cringe when I get a monkey's lunch in my glass. Mouthfeel was medium. Taste was a buncha bananas shoved in my mouth! Oh, man, not even a hint of clove to take the edge off?!? Ugh. Finish was sweet and I was ready for something hoppy & bitter. YMMV.

Thanks to JLindros for hooking me up with a can. Canned on 7/26/19.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice just barely, barely hazy golden hue with a half finger head that faded quickly to leave just a light halo.

S - Aromas of big cloves and banana, excellent creamy wheat. Big phenol spices. The wheat and banana and clove are big and bold.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, just a little cloy and sweet. There is some light clove, big banana and phenols, lovely creamy doughy wheat. I get a bit of an almost toasted grain going on though. Not much in the way for citrus.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, little creamy, decent body, maybe a bit cloy.

O - Overall this was a solid enough hefe. I really enjoyed the creamy wheat, bananas, and cloves on the nose I just wish it popped more.

Picked this up on a whim at a random store in MD, canned 7/26/19
Pours a large fizzy bubbly foamy head with lighter retention, a bit of lacing, semi hazy golden blond color

Nose brings loads of creamy doughy wheat, bready dough and a little cracker, hint of honey, plenty of citrus, a little orange rind, little vanilla dough batter, very light phenol spice

Taste brings sweet doughy wheat, bready and a bit more vanilla cake batter, quite doughy chewy like wheat, some citrus, light orange zest, a faint spice but barely, moderate sweetness with little bitterness, drier but sticky finish

Mouth is med bod, quite creamy doughy like, and medium-higher carb

Overall not bad, lots of good doughy wheat, like tons of it, almost over the top wheat, but the lack of phenol spice and fruity esters kept this from being awesome, the citrus was nice though

Look: a hazy but bright pale yellow color with a thick white head that lingered.
Aroma: a stout mix of banana and clove. Bready wheat also.
Taste: as above. Quite flavorful with a mix of banana, clove, and sweet bubblegum. Tasted true to style. The wheat component was there but in the background. Not overly malty.
Feel: off-dry finish with a nice body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: an outstanding Hefe. Really enjoyed this one.

Cloudy and golden colored, pours a modest white head, but creamy and lingering.

Nice clove aroma and the typical sweet but spicy aroma of a hefe.

Malty sweet and with the clove noted in the aroma. A bit of fruitiness also, but that is restrained. No crazy banana here. Flavor definitely what I would hope for from a hefeweizen. Always happy to have a good one brewed locally.

Medium body and fairly high carbonation. No harshness.

This one is spot on for me, despite sampling it on a freezing cold early March day.

I had another hefeweizen last night and it tasted almost like vodka. This one had stronger bannanna flavoring. Cloudy look. Not too strong on alcohol.

L-The beer pours a hazy yellow with a 1 finger of pale white froth. The head recedes to a ring and small island leaving irregular patches of lace.
S-Wonderfully strong tones of banana with more subtle clove presence.
T- The nose translates wonderfully here. Big flavors of banana accented with clove. The wheat gives those flavors a neutral stage to perform on. Wheat is there, but very much in the backround.
F-Mouthfeel overall is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is very light.
O-An excellent American made Hefeweizen. If you like the style, I highly recommend it.

Pretty good domestic interpretation of a hefe. Not quite on the level of Weihenstephaner but pretty good. Love the mouth feel. Banana and clove are subtle but overall, this is a good hefe!!!

On tap at Forno in Baltimore, MD. Nice, clear pale golden with not much retention. Nice nose and taste of banana, wheat, and clove. Light-bodied, easy drinking.

Draft at Lost & Found. Closest I’ve come to a German here (other than Live Oak), near perfect all around except for the pour. Wonderful consistency and feel, basic essences of banana and clove are present. Just need a half liter pour in a weizen glass to be sure.

Can dated 2/22/17 into pint glass. Pours a cloudy pale straw color with a thin off-white head that dissipates quickly. Initial impression is banana, wheat, and spices - very true to the style. Mouthfeel is creamy; carbonation is middle of the road. Sweet, fruity finish. Not bad, but a little too sweet and fruity for my tastes.

On tap:
Pours like a white ale-very pale yellow. The head is a little disappointing, though, and there's not much lacing. I'd actually say this looks like a Berlinerweiss.

Definitely doesn't smell like a Berliner, though. Big banana and hints of spice - a very classic nose.

Taste follows, with the banana a tad subdued compared to the nose. A nice bready undercurrent but this seems a little light on the feel. TIny bubbles are enhanced by a bit of earthy spice to create a nice accent to the beer.

Some high and lower points, but the taste and nose are in line with what you might expect in a Hefe.

Poured 12oz can into tall glass. It is a hazy pale yellow with a 1.5 finger white head. Falls into a thin collar whilst tiny bubbles rise up through the liquid. Aroma is very pleasing with some banana bread, bubble gum, and a bit of yeast. Not much in the way of clove or other spice. Flavor follows with a big yeasty banana flavor along with some grainy wheat. Feel is lighter, but creamy with soft carbonation. Well done Hefe and I have had a few great ones to compare it against.

Poured from the can into a tumbler.

Pale orange, with a nice unfiltered like body. Real nice creamy classic bright white head, a bit small in stature. Settles to a small but solid thin Puck.

Nice banana smelling nose and classic. Slightly lemon but also a bit grainy on the nose. Solid aroma though.

Palate seems to be a bit classic but with some odd character. Peppery mid palate but also nice soft chewy wheat like malt texture and sweetness. Finishes a bit bubbly which also gets into a more pepper and gas for an odd flavor combination.

A decent beer but a little bit of an odd flavor for a hefe.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a yellow/whitish color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bananas, some spices. Taste is banana, spice, wheat, extremely drinkable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a quality beer, I can't believe how quickly this glass emptied.

12 oz can poured into a pint glass

A- A hazy golden straw color with a two finger white head.

S- Wheat along with pilsner malts and some bready pale malts, faint citrus, a really nice banana/cloves combo.

T- Wheat, bready, nice touch of lemon, slight earthy spice, sweet bananas and cloves in the finish.

M- Smooth, light body.

O- A very easy drinking Hefeweizen and a good example of the style. Very cool to see a brewery that seems to be getting some hype release a straight forward Hefeweizen that could hold its own against German Hefes.
