Imperial 1st Meal aged one year in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. Typical 1st Meal profile of maple syrup, coffee, subtle smoke and super soft vanilla but with the addition of the bourbon oak flavors to enhance everything. A serious melting of prominent flavors.

Had on tap at RAR; then again bottled at home. Just outstanding big beer. Pours a deep black but nice accents of ruby to light. Full almost meringue head with fair retention (consistent with big abv). Nose is rich with subdued road tunes; caramel; maple and blackstrap. Faint hint of smokiness. Awesome. Taste keeps the ride going. All above but wood and vanilla start. The mix of slightly bitter blackstrap, wood and hint of dried fruit expands the stout to also have characteristics of rich old ale. As hoped...the more the beer loses its initial chill the more the scents and tastes evolve and increase the complexity. Mouthfeel is silky but not sticky/ syrupy. Liquid velvet. This is “craft” beer... so well crafted. Just a wonderful brew.
