Appearance: Black as night and opaque and produces two fingers of head that did stick till about the half way mark, but sadly did not lace at all.
Smell: Dark chocolate malt with pumpkin and cinnamon notes that did not require much warming. Pretty much as advertised although I would have like a bit more spice.
Taste: Starts with mild cinnamon and chocolate malt that abandons the chocolate to light pumpkin before a bitter combined snap at the end. It's very much as advertised, nothing more, nothing less but in that it is done well.
Mouthfeel: The aftertaste is clean, something that I don't really tend to find in either a porter or a pumpkin beer, the carbonation is decent but it seems to stop just short of being gloriously creamy, but the transitioning and range is beautiful. Sweet, to spice to savory to bitter in a very well done way.
Drinkability: Medium body, which normally I'd expect a Porter to be a bit heavier, but I think it really does a great job of making you want to drink more of it. It certainly comes across as great for early fall.
Final Thoughts: I believe this is the best pumpkin beer I have ever had. Marrying it with a porter seems to have paid off, and part of me wonders if a splash of coffee was throw in how well it would fare. It's especially good, because the sweetness is perfectly curbed with this one. Thumbs Up.
