Not sure whether this should be classified as a saison or wild ale, but either way it’s exceptional. BlackBerry Farms doing what they do, and doing it exceptionally well. More complete review to come. Just enjoying this first experience with friends, for now.

A corked and caged 12.7 fl oz bottle, bottled on 17th August 2016. Poured into a Holy Mountain tulip glass.

Appearance: A hazy blonde orange colour with a slightly more than one finger white head that dissipated quickly to a thin layer around the glass and left sparse to no lacing.

Aroma: Tart, mixed berries, grass, hay with a hint of brett.

Taste: Tart, oaky, vinous, wine, funky with only a touch of mixed berries.

Mouthfeel: Dry, light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: The taste didn’t quite match the aroma, but it was still quite nice.

Almost like wine effervescence, the Brett dominates and the flavor is great, but you get almost zero evidence of the fruit additions in the flavor profile

Again, the damn internet atr my review.

Some nice wet hay & barnyard notes on the nose, along with pear.

T: Red currrant, prears & cherry present along with a trace of red wine, with a little dryness. Finishes with a little redwine & a whisper of tart cherry

MF: Delicate carbonation, fairly light body

Drinks easy, but was looking for Brett for sure

Pours a hazy orange, with lots of floaties.

Tart smell, notes of raspberries and blackberries, and some grass.

Taste is yeasty and fruity, not nearly as tart as the nose had me thinking it would be. The character of the wine barrels is very prominent, with a lot of oaky tones and red wine hints.

Medium bodied, not overly carbonated.

This was a nice saison, but the smell really didn't connect with the taste, felt like two different beers. Still tasty!

Poured from the cork and cage bottle into a Belgian tulip. 2016 vintage.

Pours a strawberry blonde hue with a thin, white head that subsides quickly. A thin film remains around the edges of the glass as I sip.

Smells slightly of brettanomyces with a fruity accent lingering. Some lactobacillous is also present.

Tastes initially tart with a sharp bite. A pleasant bitterness on the finish. Flavor is well rounded and quite exquisite for a saison.

Feels super prickly and carbonated on the front with a moderate acidity and puckering from the lacto.

Overall an awesome saison from BF. I'd be interested to see how this beer would age after a few years in the cellar.

I really enjoy BF and I'm curious to see what else they put out in the next few years.

Cheers,
WB
