This beer is an Americanized version of a Foreign Extra Stout. It is jet-black with strong roastiness, high bitterness and a brightness that resonates from the lively American citrus hops.

7% ABV, 60 IBU, Hops: Summit, Cascade

I tried this at the brewery. It poured an opaque dark with off-white head that did not leave any lace. The scent had subtle roasty notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with faint chocolate and roast presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it was an ok beer.

Pros lacing, aroma of bitter-sweet chocolate that is not smokey, palate that is of chocolate, smoke, ash. Cons palate is ashy and bitter in contrast to smooth nose, palate is pretty short. 82/100.

If you like your stouts big and bitter, this is one to try. I prefer mine a little smoother and less bitter, so this wasn't my favorite style, but I could see how people would like this one.

a real sturdy stout that i have seen on tap around town a little bit. fate has been so hit or miss. when its good its great, but when its bad, its appalling. this is on the good side for sure. big and black and rich, with very little bitterness, grain or otherwise. a very smooth body, a nice vehicle for the roasty malt flavor and the dark chocolate notes. there is a light toasted coconut thing in here which lightens it up a bit, very subtle. the body is gigantic, and a pint is definitely filling to say the least, one was plenty for me, even without a meal in front of me too. better for winter than this time of year absolutely. good stuff from fate here, not as different as many of there beers, a little safer, yet still distinct.
