it must have been a great year for kumquats, or else brewers are all discovering their potential at once, i feel like i have seen more beers, especially in this sour style, using them this year than ever before. no bother though, they seem to be an awesome add for a nice piquant citrus profile that works with sour, wood, wild yeasts, and hops, no complaints here! this is a sour saison type, aged in white wine barrels with kumquats. its tasty and bright and quite sour, but refreshing at the same time with a really clean bacterial sourness and citrus profile, and with a lot of carbonation from the tap despite a not overly lively pour. the citrus as robust in here, zesty and bitter more than juicy and sweet, true to the kumquat itself. a little bit of funk, but more acid in here than anything else, clean wood, light vanilla and honey before the acid cuts it, and then some fruitiness from the wine, white grapes obviously but also suggestions of apricot and pear. drier finish, light body, solid carbonation, and overall a unique flavor profile, lacking some truly wild depth, but more than compensated for with the fruit and the wine aspects. fun beer, these guys are killing it across all the styles right now!

Pour at the League welcome party. Not as fruit forward as the apricot variant. Good balance but needs some time to let the funk develop. Tasted more like a non-sour saison with a hint of kumquats....
