Poured from a 16 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Nearly clear caramel brown pour with 2 fingers of creamy white head. Great retention.
S: Earth and toasted grains. Coffee and brown sugar.
T.F: Toasted malts to start. Some sweetness up front quickly gives way to bitter hops... nutty/earthy, espresso, and vanilla. Some coconut towards the finish. Super creamy nitro carbonation. Medium to light bodied.
O: A quality brown ale... more complex than is typical for the style. Easy drinking... especially for a style that's never been a favorite.

We all loved this new and refreshing take on a classic brown. The nitro choice suited the beer well, and it has a wonderful earthy and rich flavor to go along with it. A great brown for dark beer beginners.

Picked up a single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler on 12.1.18 for $2.99. Canned on 10.17.18; consumed on 3.20.19. Cold stored since purchase.
Beer poured light brown with a small nitro like head that has great hang time.
Nose is toasted malts and nutty.
Taste follows the nose, toasted malts with coffee like notes dominate. Finish is well hopped to make this nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, somewhat smooth and refreshing.
Overall a good rendition of an out of vogue style!

Clear brown, persistent foam.
Both adjuncts, easily best part of this beer.
Wouldn't guess coconut but definitely coffee. Bitter, earthy, no sweetness. Not much to come back for.
Sticky, lingering.

Canned on 10/25/18
Appearance - Poured violently, hazy and chestnut brown with a fair amount of sediment floating about Light tan, quarter-finger width head displays fair retention before dying to a thin, consistent layer of suds. Not much for lacing; a few spots at most.
Smell - Coconut and coffee stand out on the nose; lesser hints of vanilla and cream.
Taste - A good amount of coconut, coffee and lesser caramel upfront and throughout. Nice, balanced finish of the aforementioned, with a trace of coffee bitterness taking the lead in the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Light-bodied with low, almost dead bite. Lightly creamy. Drinks easy but basically completely flat.
Overall - Okay, I'm just gonna say it: Modern Times has no idea how to can nitro beers. Shaken vigorously and poured as violently as possible, the mouthfeel is still as dead as you could possibly imagine. A shame; the flavors are promising.

Nitro can poured into a Sierra Nevada Brewing Co pub glass
A: Pours cascading shades of brown, finally settling to a copper chestnut brown with a little sediment in suspension, and a firm layer of creamy coco brown head that leaves some light lacing.
S: Toasted bread, roasty notes, coffee, chocolate caramel, toffee, and a touch of coconut.
T: Toasty, roasty, smooth coffee, a little dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, vanilla, and an earthy slightly piney bitterness that slightly lingers on the back end. Coconut slowly comes out on the back end as it warms.
M: Medium body, soft carbonation.
O: I'm always up for a brown ale, or a nitro can. Why not both? I wouldn't mind just a little more body, but I dig it.

Was trying to finish the Modern Times calendar when I picked up this one. Still need to get my hands on a Membata from October, but this one was November and just need Sula for December. This is from my favorite brewery in San Diego, well, maybe No. 2 behind Pure Project. So this one had to be good. Online description called it, “This nitrogenated miracle will be a resounding high-five between our coffee & beer program, combining a nitro brown ale and the coffee we roast mere footsteps away from the brewhouse, along with a generous helping of coconut. Expect a creamy, toasty, chocolaty delight that sings with big, beautiful coffee & coconut notes, and makes holiday gatherings substantially more awesome.”
Poured a reddish brown murky color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki white frothy-to-fizzy head. Could see some very slow moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Average spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.50)
Smelled coffee, cacao, roasted malts, dark chocolate, toasted coconut, caramel and vanilla. Surprisingly not as good from the can, but still got toasted coconut, coffee and dark chocolate. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted just as good as the nose. Just a nice blend of coffee, dark chocolate and toasted coconut. Also cacao, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla and semi-char wood. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just an awesome beer. Coconut, coffee and dark chocolate were fighting the whole time, but it worked. (Overall - 4.25)
