Recently went to Coin Haus to knock out my $25 Group On. Went with this one for No. 2, which was labeled online as, “Amphora Grisette w/ Wine Must & Black Currants. This beer was the result of aging our funky rye grisette in both our Amphorae, along with Tempranillo and Sauvignon Blanc wine must added to each clay fermenter. We allowed our house cultures to ferment it until the beer was tart and dry, then racked the results out of their amphorae and onto a bed of Blackcurrant and Zinfandel grape must for an extra layer of fruity complexity. The resulting beer pours a garnet red and has notes of ripe berries, whole-cluster red wine, and a drying minerality.” Was new to Grisettes, but was still looking forward to it. Was going to be a quick review.
Poured a garnet color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy white head. No noticeable bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent layered lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled black cherry, red wine, plum, tomato, tart cherry and hints of purple grape. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted better than the nose. Unknown red wine, plum, tart black cherry, purple grape, black currents, licorice and ripe tomato. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, earthy finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This grew on me as it went down. Really liked it. (Overall - 4.00)

By the way, this is a Grisette and not a Wild Ale (but that option is not given).
Beautiful ecstasy. A beautiful thing. Imagine some glorified ruler sipping a beverage out of a chalice of his choice; that great ruler, despot or not, has the best liquid in the kingdom on his table. And he drinks it (just as I am at this moment). Now, this is that 18th century elixir. This is that turn of the century dream. And I like it.
