Max is a straight-up Citra bonanza. We dry-hopped it with Citra and Citra cryo hops, resulting in a beer experience that's akin to eating delicious, ripe tangerines in a fragrant forest of tropical fruit. Max w/ Simcoe adds Simcoe to the mix.

After a good flight over at North Park Brewing Company, headed to Modern Times in North Park to review a few beers. This ended up being No. 2, although I ordered both this and Weather Control at the same time. Description for Max was, “This IPA is a straight-up Citra bonanza. We dry-hopped it with Citra and Citra cryo hops, resulting in a beer experience that's akin to eating delicious, ripe tangerines in a fragrant forest of tropical fruit.” Max w/ Simcoe I’m assuming added Simcoe someone in there, but wasn’t sure if it was a complete replacement for Citra or just an addition.
Poured an amber clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head when I got it. Light bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Was getting no real hops initially, but a lot of fruit. Very malty. Got caramel, toffee, spoiled blood orange, floral, tangerine, grapefruit and pineapple. (Smell - 3.50)
Taste was a little better than the nose, but not by much. Got spoiled blood orange, caramel, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine and resin. Want to say that I got some Citra in there, but was not the clean, crisp Citra that I was used to. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 4.00)
This beer was frankly not something I’d want to have again. Just very rough around the edges. Still think I overrated this. (Overall - 3.75)
