This IPA is loaded with Simcoe & Amarillo hops as well as a bit of rye, which should make for a boatload of citrusy, fruity awesomeness from aroma to satisfying finish.

16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Hazy, straw colir, small foamy head. Nose is light citrus notes with some tropical aroma too. Taste blends the citrus and tropical with a nice snappy bitterness.

Pours a hazy honey gold with a sudsy head. Tropical fruit and melon, silky and slightly oily texture. Piney finish, mildly bitter. So pleasant and refreshing. Wish I'd bought more than one can.

Can poured into a Modern Times Beer glass

A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces beautifully.

S: Mix of almost over ripe tropical fruit and juicy citrus, a touch of pine, a bit spicy, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Citrus, big tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit, tropical fruit, passion fruit, peach, apricot, and hints of pineapple, papaya, and mango, a little spice, resinous pine, biscuity malt, and caramel honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.

O: Really nicely balanced, great use of some classic hops.

another good hoppy beer from modern times, who seems to be taking over the world, or at least this part of it. they have a ton of ipa types out there now, and not only are all of them pretty good, but they are also mostly pretty distinct from one another, many of the new school guys we cannot say the same thing about at all. the rye in the mash here is a nice touch, i think it grabs onto the simcoe and does something pretty cool pulling out pine and woodsy elements i dont always get from it, and still staying dry and far enough back that the amarillo isnt overwhelmed, a smart and intentional recipe here, and nicely executed. paler honey colored and quite thick, big melon and spruce notes to the nose, some peppery character from the rye coming through as well, and not as dry as it could be it doesnt seem, but i dont mind here, more depth and more balance this way. the flavor is about the same, better than expected back and forth between these hops, and they seem pretty equal, which is cool. i like the fruitiness that comes up, grapefruit, melon, and tangerine, and the earthy malt underneath. flavorful beer, maybe a little fuller than i can drink a ton of, but unique enough and relatively complex as they go with the more interesting malt bill. these guys have been killing it with the hoppy stuff, glad to be seeing so much of it come through here!

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
From: La Mesa Wine & Spirits in La Mesa, Calif.
Price: $12.99 for a 4-pack

Reviewed as: New England IPA
Misc.: Canned on April 17, 2019

First time seeing this in stores so had to pick it up. Was going to wait for Trader Joe’s, but saw it at La Mesa Wine & Spirits first. Online description called for, “This IPA is loaded with Simcoe & Amarillo hops as well as a bit of rye, which should make for a boatload of citrusy, fruity awesomeness from aroma to satisfying finish. Plus, the can is extremely fun to stare at.” Good thing I don’t review my beers based on what the can looks like (or what the name is for that matter). But Simcoe and Amarillo, count me in.

Poured a gold-to-amber hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect layered lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled Amarillo, tangerine, orange, bitter mango rind, peach, pineapple, red grapefruit, papaya and pine. A little bit better out of the can with Amarillo, Simcoe, mango, pineapple and red grapefruit shining through. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted about the same as the nose. Got Amarillo, bitter tangerine peel, orange, pineapple, red grapefruit, mango, papaya, peach skin, pine, hints of Simcoe, black pepper and light herbal. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, citrusy finish. (Feel - 3.50)

Very good overall, but a little bit of a letdown for a Modern Times beer. Probably overrated this just a tad. (Overall - 3.75)

Pours a hazy bright straw yellow, pineapple juice, with a robust just off white head.
Smell is bright and tropical. Pineapple and passion fruit. Nice sharp bite to balance the fruity sweetness.
Taste is fruity with peach and pineapple leading the way. Nectarine and valencia orange are present. A melony, maybe cantaloupe, taste lingers on at the end. Very nice if you like these modern fruity hop flavors.
Mouthfeel is excellent, full and soft with just enough bitter bite to keep it from cloying. Very much a full beer but it doesn't get syrupy or build up on the tongue.
Overall this is one of the better IPAs i've had from MT so if you know and like their style I'm guessing you'll love this. Very nice modern american IPA with great fruity hop flavors.

Canned 5/1/2019. Pours a hazy yellow orange, good retention and lacing. Citrus forward, mostly orange/grapefruit, pineapple, pine. Malt backbone is quite sweet and a bit doughy, pastry like. Very low bitterness per style, but still a bit zesty and resinous, which is good.

Overall, an enjoyable juicy hazy. A bit sweet for my liking, would like it a bit more dry on the finish, and the hop profile leaves something to be desired. I think this would make an excellent gateway to IPA's for less seasoned palates. Might revisit for that exact purpose.

Picked up a 16 oz single from the Craft Beer Hop Stop cooler 6-7-19 for $2.99. Canned on 4-24-19; consumed on 7-13-19.

Beer poured a pale orange with a nice white head that is leaving some lacing behind.

Nose has some citrus and a touch of stone fruit.

Taste is tangerine and peach forward over a medium pale and caramel malt base. Finishes with a touch of pine and citrus rind; 6/10 on my bitterness scale.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and refreshing.

Overall a nice ipa at a nice price.
