Collaboration with Burial Beer Co.

The progeny of a mental & emotional partnership with Burial Brewing, this hazy IPA is dankness given physical form, with outrageous quantities of Mosaic & Simcoe yielding a juice-vortex replete with flavors and aromas of tropical fruit and citrus, with just a touch of pine to put the bow on top. For real. It’s delicious. You should totally buy some.

Canned 3/5/19. The lovechild of Modern Times and Burial Beer Company. Had once before during a share with some buddies and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really glad to revisit and see how it fairs.
L: Pours a hazy orange yellow in color, with a color resembling the skin of an apricot. It looks thick, full, and well, hazy. Zero transparency, just murk bomb delight. A slow and standard pour yielded a cap amounting to about a finger of dense, tightly packed white bubbles that retained rather nicely. Lacing amount is moderate, gently gracing the edge of the glass but not veiling the whole container. As a whole, it looks like a proper NEIPA.
S: Stonefruit city. Peach, apricot and nectarine are all detectible, alongside a hearty pithy citrus smell. Other aromas consist of pine, grey tea, bubble gum and lemongrass.
T: Fantastic. Huge amounts of fruit upfront, with a killer balance of both stonefruit and citrus. I taste orange, tangerine, peach and apricot, with lemon, mango and banana in the back. A semi-sweet flaked oat presence also is in the back ground, giving a bready/vanilla-like flavor. Pink starburst, bubble gum and pineapple also comes to mind. Mild grassy finish with lingering notes of pine and the afore mentioned fruits.
F: Fantastic. Medium in body, light to medium in weight, but ever so smooth. It is soft, smooth, light and lofty, elevating the total experience. No booze presence, and just the right touch of carbonation.
O: Damn delicious, and an all-around great NEIPA. A proper juice bomb with the right amount of IPA assets that keep you grounded. I wish I had another can (or 5). Anyways, I am very much enjoying it again, and I am very grateful to have tried. Modern Times and Burial did some work. Cheers!

Canned 03/05/19, #004758.

Nice opaque golden yellow color with some small amounts of soft head that leave behind a decent amount of lingering residual lace retention.

The nose on this has a nice unique aroma profile, full of underripe melon, papaya, pear, and mango. The hop presence is predominantly grassy, cutting through any overbearing sweetness and really balancing out the nose. Lot of Simcoe influence here.

More sweetness than what was on the nose, with mango and melon serving as the backbone for the present flavors. Undertones of papaya re-emerge, with a nice contrast of grassy, peppery hops. Not overly complex but very well balanced. Mosaic shines.

Soft, smooth mouthfeel. Carbonation is low but present and assists in that soft overall feel. Lightly sticky without much of a mouth-coating left behind.

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
From: Modern Times Lomaland in Point Loma (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $21.50 for a 4-pack
Purchased: March 9, 2019; Picked up March 14, 2019
Consumed: March 14, 2019
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Misc.: Canned March 5, 2019; Collab with Burial Beer Co.

Went to Modern Times Lomaland to pick up my 4-pack cans of Hedge Witch and Temple of Ruin, but also walked out with a 4-pack of Mist Dragon and Dream Pop, and single cans of a pair of imperial stouts. Welp. Anyway, had heard good things about Burial. In fact, had two of what I assumed to be their regular beers, giving Scythe Rye IPA a 4.02 on March 18, 2017 and I Know For A Fact You Don’t Party a 4.07 on March 29, 2017 as a gift from Jay. Email description was, “The progeny of a mental & emotional partnership with Burial Brewing, this hazy IPA is dankness given physical form, with outrageous quantities of Mosaic & Simcoe yielding a juice-vortex replete with flavors and aromas of tropical fruit and citrus, with just a touch of pine to put the bow on top. For real. It’s delicious. You should totally buy some.” Right up my alley with Mosaic and Simcoe.

Poured a gold-to-amber hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of rocky white head. Just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)

Smelled dank Simcoe and the Mosaic right away. Also papaya, passion fruit, mango, guava, juicy melon, pine, hints of peppery spice, herbal and wet grass. Big Simcoe from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste was slightly better than the nose. Not quite sure a 4.25 initially, but got better each sip. Almost an equal mix of spicy Simcoe and Mosaic. Also big tropical notes in papaya, passion fruit, guava, mango and melon, along with dank pine, resin and peppery spice. Almost more West Coast IPA than New England Style. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.75)

Really liked this one overall. Was back and forth on a few different categories. Might have slightly underrated this, but excellent overall. (Overall - 4.25)
