A little on the sweet side for my BA Stout taste but I definitely liked it.

12 oz can, from 2022.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells like delicious, lightly sweet coffee, almond paste, coconut cream, vanilla cream, and dark chocolate.

This is exactly what I expect out of Modern Times. The vanilla and coconut add a very decadent but pleasant sweetness, but the earthiness and toastiness of the almonds and the vibrancy of the coffee help pull back the sweetness just enough. There’s a little bit of bourbon, but not a ton of barrel character overall.

This is thick and creamy, with a great drinkability.

I really wish all Modern Times beers came in these little cans, it’s the perfect size vessel for the type of stouts they do so well

12oz can courtesy of Dimidiata.

Poured into an "imperial glass", it was utterly impervious to light, so black that it felt like it was radiating it's blackness back at me...in a good way. Tight, sudsy mocha colored head that dropped at high speed (not surprising given how high the abv was). A thin tan ring stayed atop the beer from then on out.

Smells like a candy bar. Haven't smelled anything like it since Whistle Punk's Black Is Beautiful. Surprised it's not more boozy smelling, considering it's abv. Coconut and coffee are drowned out by the cocoa and almonds at first, but they emerge a little as it warms up.

Tastes like it smells. The cocoa and almonds dominate, especially soon after opening, but there's more complexity that is revealed as it warms up. I also get coffee with creamer and some bourbon, but it tastes more than anything else like a candy bar.

Thicc boi. Creamy.

Is this called The Final Course because they knew MT was gonna crash like the Hindenburg? If so, they went out with a winner. Delicious dessert beer. Makes me sad I probably won't have it again. Thank you so much for sending this to me, Christine!

Poured from a magnum at an oh so secret impromptu birthday bottle share.
Black with minimal head.
Smells of chocolate, vanilla and coconut.
Taste like coffee, coconut, chocolate and vanilla. Minimal oak.
Wonderful beer, even though it is so sweet and cloying, it's still extremely rich in flavor.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Reviewed as: American Pastry Stout
Glass: Tioga-Sequoia 13-oz. tulip
Price: $34.50
From: Modern Times Lomaland in Point Loma (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: March 24, 2021
Consumed: April 17, 2021
Misc.: No bottled on date

Picked up this bottle on a whim after picking up three other 4-packs that I ordered and having a flight. I knew this one would be good, but after reading the description I was even more excited. The Untappd description was “This liquid smorgasbord of dessert-magic is a meticulously blended triumvirate of bourbon barrel-aged Beastmaster, Dragon Mask, Mega Devil’s Teeth, Modem Tones, Monsters’ Park, Oblivion Ring, and Suggestion of Mass. We could have stopped there and had a seriously tasty beer, but we totally did not. We conditioned this beast on a luxurious bed of coconut, vanilla beans, cocoa nibs, almonds, and coffee. It’s a thundering detonation of pure decadence that’s about to let slip the dogs of war on your unsuspecting palate. If you want the full experience, you should definitely let this one warm up to 55 degrees before drinking it.”

Poured a pitch-black color with one finger of khaki tan frothy lacing which dissipated quickly. A calm setting underneath. Very bad watery lacing. Bad watery retention. (Sight - 3.00)

Smelled chocolate syrup, marshmallow, vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, Milky Way candy bar, caramel nougat, smooth bourbon, toffee, coconut and smooth coffee. (Smell - 4.75)

Tasted almost as good as the nose. Got sticky chocolate syrup, marshmallow, vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, Milky Way candy bar, caramel nougat, smooth bourbon, toffee, coconut, almond, smooth coffee, light brown sugar and hints of molasses. So damn smooth for 13.9 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.75)

Full body. Sticky texture. Soft carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)

Good God this was just awesome. So damn smooth with so much flavor. Just an absolute banger. (Overall - 4.75)

Thanks, Chris

Jet black with no head, this looks like motor oil. The nose is decadent, delivering on what's on the label. Nutty almond, sweet, toasted coconut, rich, sweet chocolate and fruity coffee. Vanilla, a little bourbon are present. The palate opens sweet and rich, with a great blend of sweeter flavors. Rich, decadent, sweetened dark chocolate, coconut, rich, almond with a fruity, nutty flavor. Sweet, rich, this is a well executed pastry stout that's way too drinkable.

Bottle. Black color. Thick.

Vanilla and coconut bomb. The almonds add a creamy texture. Lots of bourbon here. Very warming. Thick, rich, decadent. The coffee is much more subdue compared to the Medicare.
