2019 vintage; consumed on 3/12/2021
Pours a viscous, deep, motor-oil black body sporting a glossy opacity and a short-lived half-finger of almost creamy, dark khaki head before transitioning to a large, silky collar circling the surface, no lacing, and no cap.
Aroma opens with a dusting of cocoa wilting beneath ripe raisin, with distant toffee similarly outdone by oxidized sherry and lighter Concord grape over middle; vanilla and heartier, sweeter barrel tones attempt to assert themselves into the back end of the bouquet, but to no avail against the continually bombarding sherry, thus leaving comprehensive impressions of untamed dark fruits, wine, and little else.
Taste offers splintery bourbon barrel giving way to oxidized sherry almost immediately, as sharp Concord grape soon overwhelms dusty cocoa over the mid-palate; a dulled though tart cherry tone and an overly tannic wine influence further amplify into the back end, leaving little beyond lingering cocoa and more neutral oak barrel past the finish.
Mouthfeel brings a medium-full body with a rounded, fluffy carbonation; creamy textures upfront devolve quickly over the mid-palate with a sharpening acidity, as low-lying tartness presenting from an oxidized sherry coats the back end; a light char and mild warmth come through past the finish.
From sherry and brandy to rum and port, a perfect storm of barrel influences produced a stout both one-dimensional and decidedly unpleasant, highlighted by the unenviable accomplishment of tasting oxidized without exactly being oxidized; this was a raw failure in blending, and one I'd imagine only worsened with time.

On tap at the Portland Modern Times venue the other day.
The beer pours a blackish brown color with decent head retention and light lacing. The beer looks fairly viscous, as expected in a high abv. BA stout. The nose is attractive but fairly simple. I'm picking up milk chocolate, light coffee, vanilla and some noticeable bourbon. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this almost cloyingly sweet beer. While the flavor profile is great, the sweetness is almost too much. At least for me, it really hurts the beer's drinkability (which is already a problem, given the high abv.). Mouthfeel is fairly full, and the finish is long and quite sweet.
Good beer for sure, but even the 8 ounce glass I ordered was almost more than I can handle. So probably not a beer I'd want to revisit any time soon.
