Collaboration with Highland Park Brewing
This collab with the excellent folks at Highland Park Brewing is a West Coast-style IPA with a profile replete with Strata & Mosaic-forward radness. Passion fruit, mango, citrus, and pine mingle together in a wildly successful fashion. If you’re all up in our comments like “make more West Coast IPA”, we think you’re going to be pretty stoked.

Clear amber brew delivered to the mouth from the motel plastic-lined paper cup, not as bad as you'd think. Sudsy and mouth filling. Aromatic with mango, lime peel, and green melon. Tangy and well-balanced with the modest malty sweetness. Flavors of citrus, plum skins, and a dark finish. Moderate bitter aftertaste.
This is the powerfully flavored yet elegant IPA that MT won me over with, so I hope they will not look at the "West Coast" as some old school thing to be brewed once in a while. From the 16 oz can purchased at Best Damn. Dated 06/17/2020 so neither it nor their political message is very fresh. But the beer at least is still good.

Glass: Firestone 14-oz. Teku glass
Price: $19.50 for a 4-pack
From: Modern Times Lomaland in Point Loma (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: June 20, 2020; Picked up June 25, 2020
Consumed: June 26, 2020
Misc.: Collab between Modern Times and Highland Park; Canned on June 17, 2020
Ordered three 4-packs of a special release, including this one. I’m a big fan of both Modern Times and Highland Park, so I was excited to try this collab. The email description called it, “This collab with the excellent folks at Highland Park Brewing is a West Coast-style IPA with a profile replete with Strata & Mosaic-forward radness. Passion fruit, mango, citrus, and pine mingle together in a wildly successful fashion. If you’re all up in our comments like “make more West Coast IPA”, we think you’re going to be pretty stoked.”
Poured a dark gold-to-light amber clear color with 3-to-4 fingers of rocky white head. Plenty of bubble streams coming up from the bottom and the sides of the glass at different speeds. World-class uneven foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled Strata right away, followed by passion fruit, mango, guava, Mosaic, grapefruit, pine, mixed berry, stone fruit, herbal and mown grass. More Mosaic from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but still outstanding. In order got Strata, bitter grapefruit peel, pine, passion fruit, Mosaic, mango, guava, mixed berry, stone fruit, apricot, herbal and dry grass. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, dry, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Just an excellent West Coast IPA. Glad I don’t have to split this 4-pack. (Overall - 4.25)
