Brewed with Vienna malt, pilsner malt, and corn grits, and hopped with Tettnang and Hallertau Mittelfruh, this Mexican-style lager is crisp and ridiculously refreshing. Pouring a dark yellow and sporting delightful notes of biscuit, honeysuckle, and green tea, it’s a little slice of summer magic that’s virtually guaranteed to brighten even your darkest winter days.

Unfiltered golden body, crisp and bready, has a bit of floral/citrus zest to it that adds a good crispness and balanced bitterness. A bit more of a bitter finish than most Viennas, crisper but has the nice malty Vienna sweetness, touch pumpernickel.

Had on tap. Murky golden body with a finger of white foam. Aromas of floral and grassy hops leading honey, corn malts and biscuit. Taste has more hop bitters to it, feels like it is trying to get to IPL land, corn is cut a bit, but honey and biscuit endure. Feel is hoppier for style, but very bright, crisp and generally up lifting. Good porch beer on a warm day

Type: 12-oz. can

Glass: Clear 16-oz. Bruges beer glass
Price: $14 for a 6-pack
From: Modern Times Lomaland in Point Loma (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: July 25, 2020; Picked up: July 29, 2020
Consumed: Aug. 1, 2020
Misc.: Canned on July 18, 2020
Grabbed a 6-pack of this with a host of others for the second special release of July by Modern Times. Had two the day before while golfing, giving them a 4.25 on Untappd and writing after the first one, “Full review later but tasting a lot like Barrio (by Thorn). So 4.25 it is.” Email description for this beer read, “Brewed with Vienna malt, pilsner malt, and corn grits, and hopped with Tettnang and Hallertau Mittelfruh, this Mexican-style lager is crisp and ridiculously refreshing. Pouring a dark yellow and sporting delightful notes of biscuit, honeysuckle, and green tea, it’s a little slice of summer magic that’s virtually guaranteed to brighten even your darkest winter days.”
Poured a medium yellow clear color with two fingers of frothy white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass, looking kind of like a snow globe. World-class uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled honey, biscuit, corn cereal, sweet grain, herbal, tea, fresh cut grass and hints of skunk. Not quite as good out of the can, but got some earthy pilsner malt there. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose. First thing I thought was how refreshing it was. In order got honey, biscuit, sweet grain, Corn Pops cereal, herbal, tea, fresh cut grass and earthy pilsner malt. (Taste - 4.50)
Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.50)
This was a world-class lager. Glad I got a 6-pack of this. I wish it was a little bit cheaper and I’d be buying a lot more of it. (Overall - 4.50)
