A perfect introduction to sour ales, Table Beer is aged for several months in a dedicated oak foeder where it aquires mild acidity and subtle notes of stone fruit and vanilla. Deep gold in color with a slight haze, this light-bodied ale pairs perfectly with pub grub and fancy fare alike, but stands up on its own, no problemo. Pull up a chair.

i was pumped to try this, love the style and have not seen much of this kind of thing from these guys before i dont think, so i jumped when i saw it. a shame its not amazing, blonde and weirdly fermenty beyond what i would expect from either a clean belgian of french strain, and not really reading wild in any recognizable way, its just odd there, maybe somewhat soapy and phenolic, maybe not exactly an off flavor, but pronounced enough in such a light beer to be kind of dominant in a less than flattering way. it is wood aged and tart, definitely bacterial, but not all the way successful there, much as it sounds awesome on paper. blonde and clear, real delicate and refined looking, short white head on it, good carbonation, some real sparkle in the glass. nose and taste read a little stinky, rotting lemon, wood polish, lactic and acetic, not over the top sour to drink, but the acidity that is here is not quite pleasant to me. its missing the funk that would round it out some, so its both curious and a little bit incomplete for being complex, if that makes any sense. subtle black pepper, preserved lemon, cut grass, and white wine tannins and fruitiness in the middle, both of which linger to me on the palate. it stays light, not on flavor but on the palate, twangy and quick, a little thin to me and without as much grain personality as i think i expected, sharp and gone, light wood, with a little late bitterness. peach and mango as it sits but its dry too, more classically belgian later too. this isnt way off, but its well below where i was hoping it would land, appreciate the mixed culture aspect but it just doesnt quite hit. to be fair, id had a fair few when i had it, and it would be reasonable of me to give it a second chance on a fresher palate when i encounter i next, and so i will. that said, this should have been better than it was this time around...
