Taking the tastebuds to the tropics, the Rhinegeist Brewery reaches for blueberries, pineapples and milk sugars to plump up their sour, nitro-laced ale with a gentle smoothie action.
Hazy plum and blush in color, Honoblublu brings a very creamy, tightly woven froth to the brim before teasing the nose with tart berries, cider, citrus, tropical fruit and a curious note of bell pepper and fresh coffee beans. Scant sweetness offers a hint of cream candy, juice box and pixie sticks before opening up to the middle palate.
Any would-be juiciness is quickly dissolved as the fruit tartness brings a cidery, winey taste with a sharp wallop of a lactic acid spike that puckers the mouth with acute sourness and a jolt of lime, lemon and crabapple. The softness of lactose isn't enough to support the fruit or balance the sourness that strips the late palate with ease.
Light in body, the crisp, clean and highly refreshing fruit beer erases all thirst with utter ease before trailing with a fast fleeting finish and hints of berry skins left behind ever so briefly. A return of pepper and coffee ebb and flow heading into finish with a scant taste of pineapple rinds following suit.
