Been a while coming this review: Green Beacon is one of my favourite local Brisbane brewers (I would have to say Bacchus is #1, then Green Beacon - simply because Bacchus brews so many more styles whereas GB has only a few mainstays). 3 Bolt had turned me off all this time due to the wording (in all-caps) “SESSION ALE” - I’m less and less a fan of this term as it usually means to me: a nice beer watered down, so we’ll see if GB can work their magic and pull a full-flavoured rabbit out of their hat... though I’m not optimistic when even Modus f&*k up a Session Ale.
Poured from a 375ml can into a nonic pint.
A: Hazed Harvest gold body with a decent 1 centimetre (barely) off-white head that leaves some nice lacing on the side of the glass. Head sticks around for a while before dropping back... what a good sport. 7/10.
S: Dried apricot with a fairly earthy note, hints of rock melon (or cantaloupe as our American cousins like to call it) overall though it is an earthy/herbal stone-fruit driven Pale Ale... a light hint of biscuit malt settles in the background. If you like stone-fruit driven brews such as Stone & Wood Pacific Ale - chances are you’ll like this too. 7/10.
T: Hits with dried apricot and stone-fruit forward characters, then a sour twang comes in - think of when you bite into an unripe peach - followed by earthy and herbal notes, light biscuit malt, and it tapers off towards a mild bitter end note. Overall flavour is moreish and palate-cleansing, I can see this working well as a lawnmower beer on a hot summers day (basically today in Brisbane). 7/10.
M: Mid to light bodied, a hint of hop oils, with an average carbonation. 7/10.
D: Once again Green Beacon has brought out a decent brew, though not my cup of tea (I’ll stick with their Windjammer as far as my tastes are concerned), I can see how entry-level craft drinkers would enjoy this easy drinking no-nonsense Pale Ale. It’s definitely cribbing on the groundwork laid down by S&W in regards to their now seminal Pacific Ale - a beer that has captured the entry-level craft drinker market by storm and broadened mass appeal for craft beer. As far as “Session Ales” go this isn’t bad, it’s probably a little bit too high ABV-wise at 4.5% to be considered a true session beer (3-4% is more the session range IMO) however it’s a reasonable drop, and though the flavours aren’t my cuppa I could easily down a few of these. Cheers GB! 8/10.
Food match: Lemon and honey chicken salad sounds good - Google it.

Pours amber with a small head.
Nose shows tropical fruit-like hops, including melon, mango and guava along with some heavy sweet clean malt underneath.
Lots more caramel/crystal malt as a flavour too, very full-on. More fruit hops and fruit confectionery notes underneath.
