Brewer describes this as a "double stout aged in rum barrels." It's nearly black in the small snifter. The initial taste is sweet candy. Rather strange candy, actually. I say "tastes exactly like rum to me." She says "It doesn't taste like rum to ME."
In any case, this is about as sweet a beer as I can remember having. Blackened grain but all overwhelmed by the caramel waterfall. Hot with alcohol, and that's one of the nicer features. Some woody flavors and lots of vanilla emerge after some sipping. Crazy Mexican candy, sugar cane, agave, rum balls. A true oddity, but what a nite cap. On tap at the brewpub.
