Relatively clear, dark brown body; thin yet lasting khaki colored head, dense and creamy; rings of lacing inside the glass. Nicely balanced smell of coffee and dark roasted grains; a bit of caramel and cocoa. The taste exudes rich caramel with notes of medium roast coffee and a touch of whiskey building behind the malt sweetness near the finish. Heavy body; lightly silky and soft; some alcohol warmth.
A nicely done if relatively low-key rendering of a barrel aged porter. Everything balances nicely, and there is no rough edges to speak of. I personally enjoy the relatively low ABV for this style of beer, too. It is good to see some restraint by a brewer when concocting such a beer.
