A - Pours a transcendent gold with notes of vermilion. The head occupies the top third of the goblet and leaves a tenacious lace as it recedes at a pace like that of the setting sun on a long San Diego summer day.
A - on the nose there are notes of citrus, flowers and naked grapefruit.
M - wicked smooth and bodaciously carbonated.
T - supremely balanced between grain, hoppes, grass, and yeast. Floral flavors present themselves early then lead, pleasingly, into citrusy plains overtures. Alcohol is present but understated by the overall balance of the masterpiece. This is one brew that could sneak up on you, stealthily drop your drawers and spank you hard without warning.
Overall - This particular beer may just change the brewing landscape of Southern California in strange and mysterious ways that will likely benefit everyone that can read, drink, breath or dream

Type: Draft
Glass: 12-oz. pint goblet (I think)
From: Monkey Paw Brewing in San Diego, Calif.
Price: $6.75
Purchased: July 21, 2015
Consumed: July 21, 2015
Misc.: N/A

Poured a honey, orange, hazy color with two fingers of frothy head when I got it, but it was pretty dark in this place. Really good layered foamy lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Initially got a mix of orange blossom and wet dirty shoes on the nose. Also Citra zest, gritty nectarine rind, caramel and wet dog food. Nasty. (Smell - 2.25)

Luckily not wet dirty dog food in the taste like the nose. Boozy bitter alcohol, orange rind, Citra zest, light caramel and sharp nectarine. Very unbalanced. (Taste - 2.50)

Light-to-medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Boozy, astringent finish. (Feel - 2.50)

This was just not very good. It started bad with the smell and hardly got any better. (Overall - 2.25)

Had this at O'brien's in San Diego, the board had it titled as 71, but it looks like it's SD 71...not sure if you can edit the title after you've added a brew.

From tap to pint glass

A: Pours copper-tan in color, clear, forming a frothy, 2-inch head that never fully recedes. Sticky lacing covers 1/2-inch of empty glass.

S: Crisp, citrusy hops stream from the glass...distinct grapefruit along with an earthy, tea-like tone. A strong malt-backbone adds plenty of toffee sweetness. The balance is incredible - you can tell the ABV is high from the strong bouquet, but there's little warming or booze.

T: Heavy hops reveal big notes of citrus and floral earth...salty, pithy and prickly. Toffee-sweet malts add just enough balance to tamp down the hop assault, creating a singular flavor on the palate. Alcohol isn't exactly masked, but subdued for the style, just a slight alcohol warmth toward the end. Medium finish, bitter-sweet.

M: Chewy, but the carbonation livens things up. Refreshing for the style.

Probably the most drinkable 9+% IPA I've had in a long time. It's hard to make big IPA's stand out in this town, but this brew is going to get noticed.
