A classic stout. Deep dark color, coffee, chocolate, with hints of blackberry. Dry and very drinkable. A crisp stout that leaves you wanting another.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My second beer from the Whitby, Ontario brewery, and for 2025...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 19 2024 and served barely chilled.

Pours an inky blackish-brown colour, topped with an inch of frothy tan-coloured head that wilts within a matter of minutes. A tight collar encircles a few wisps of film on the surface, with some stringy, spidery lace deposition after each sip; looks fine to me. Hints of raisin and mocha coffee on the nose, with suggestions of milk chocolate, roasted grains and chocolate-covered cherries.

Very flavourful for 4.5%, but it does lean heavily towards the roasty & bitter side of the spectrum. Toasted bread, molasses and baker's chocolate at the forefront, giving way to bitter coffee grounds, herbal hops and licorice on the tail end. Bittersweet chocolate and roastiness continue on into the aftertaste, long after the sip has been swallowed. Light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation and a soft, smooth mouthfeel that goes down easy.

Final Grade: 3.84, a B+. I really liked 5 Paddles' Adventure Series Stout, but if you're not big on bitter stouts then I suspect you'll have a different opinion. This has more personality than most of the sub-5% stouts I've had over the years, punching well above its weight class in terms of flavour intensity. That being said, the bitterness does restrict its drinkability, which is not ideal for a low-abv stout. I'd buy this again if I were in the mood, should it continue to be stocked locally.
