I thanks to the amazing woodychandler for this beer.I will admit to being skeptical about this Kvass. I have had 3 other Kvass from this brewery, and all have been godawful and so sweet that I damn near went into diabetic shock. Poured from a clear plastic bottle. Has a cola color with no head whatsoever. Smell is of raisins, rye bread. Taste is vinegar, rye, spicy and tart. Feels medium/light bodied in the mouth and overall, it's nothing special, but it's the best effort from this brewery.

Oh, what a long, strange trip it's been. I have had this beauty for a while, but when @slander refused to accept my "Add", it fell into abeyance. Since then, it has been sorted & here we are on New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 3, Mission II, (Week 761), traveling back to Week 731, when Kvass was King!
From the Bottle: "Authentic Russian Formula"; "All Natural Ingredients"; "Ingredients: Water, Malt, Sugar, Yeast and Raisins".
The raisins have long since turned to dust on the punt/kick as I unscrewed the cap, but at least things are no longer screwed-up! A shimmer of carbonation was evident on its opening, so perhaps a tiny bit of fermentation was still occurring? It poured rather still, but such was to be expected. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity & cola highlights. Nose smelled like a cross between raisin bread & rye bread! 8=O Raisin Rye Bread! I am going to bake a loaf! Slightly spicy, very doughy, truly raisiny. Mmm. Yum! Mouthfeel was thin, kinda watery. The taste was EXACTLY what Kvass should be like & PRECISELY why it will never please the American palate! It was slightly tart & acidic initially, followed by a bready, raisin-y sweetness just before the spiciness of the rye kicked in. Ooh, this made my eyes water! It had clearly fermented in the bottle awaiting today's review. The tartness bordered vinegar, but it was not that sharp as to hang that label on it. This was not commercial, mass-produced Kvass for export, but more akin to the real thing. I understand why my fellow Americans scoff at it - low ABV, sour/tart, Russkie, etc. I, however, am a fan! Finish was squinky-eye dry. Phew! If I can find another of this, I will also grab some All Stars Bakery Kvass, which, up until today, was the leader of the pack. Mmm.
