This imperial stout might just be enough to wash away your sins. We worked closely with Valiant Coffee Roasters to create a custom blend of coffee beans that balances perfectly with the bold flavors of maple syrup and vanilla in this beer. We use golden naked oats to achieve that creamy, silky mouthfeel we all crave. Rich, intense, and just plain decadent! Grim Reaper says, "It's like fancy breakfast in a bottle."

Picked up a can of this on a recent trip to Windmill Farms along with a bunch of other stuff. New Glory’s website called this “This imperial stout might just be enough to wash away your sins. We worked closely with Valiant Coffee Roasters to create a custom blend of coffee beans that compliments the bold flavors of maple syrup and vanilla in this beer. We use golden naked oats to achieve that creamy, silky mouthfeel we all crave. Rich, intense, and just plain decadent! Some might say it’s to die for… Specialty Ingredients: Valiant coffee beans, vanilla beans, maple syrup, and other natural flavors.”

Poured a pitch-black color with two fingers of fizzy tan head which dissipated quickly. Could plenty of bubbles coming up slowly along the sides of the glass, kind of looking like a snow globe. Good watery lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled mocha coffee, vanilla, maple syrup, butterscotch, caramel, dark milk chocolate, roasty malts and hints of semi-char wood. Just as good on the nose from the can with the addition of dark fruit. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted just as good from the nose, maybe better. So decadent. First thing I thought was how smooth it was for 13.1 pct. ABV. In order got mocha, dark milk chocolate, maple syrup, vanilla, toasted marshmallow, butterscotch, caramel, roasty malts, hints of bitter semi-char wood and smoke. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body. Sticky-to-slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, roasty, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)

Just a really nice non-barrel-aged stout. Lovely. (Overall - 4.50)

L: Pours a dark black with a small white tan head and no lacing on the glass, this is a thick beer.

S: Maple syrup pancakes intermixed with Freshly brewed dark coffee, this smells like breakfast in a glass.

T: Vanilla and maple syrup hit the pallette first but are not overly sweet ends with a strong bitter earthy coffee, that dominates the flavor of this one. Like the smell slightly better than the taste here.

F: Slick oily mouthfeel, larger body.

O: Decent imperial stout, but could use a bit more balance.

Can poured into a Bell's Brewery snifter

A: Pours basically black with a frothy rich milk chocolate brown head that settles somewhat quickly to a thin layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.

S: Roasty, big coffee, nice hits of maple and vanilla, a little spice, almost burnt sugar, and a little umami in the background.

T: Roasted malt, earthy, plenty of coffee, solid hit of maple, some vanilla, a little toffee verging on burnt sugar, some underlying umami notes, a touch of spice, and hint of smoke. Alcohol is pretty well hidden, though a tiny bit can come out when it warms up.

M: Full body, moderate carbonation, fairly creamy, only a faint touch of alcohol warmth.

O: This combines a lot of my weaknesses, coffee stout, maple, a cool name, and bitchin' artwork, so it's been on my list to try since its birth. It's not a full case of "don't meet your heroes", but it's not quite what I was expecting. There's a lot of sticky sweetness in there that is canceled out fairly well by the coffee, but the umami notes kinda muddy things up. I'm curious what this would turn into if it saw the inside of a barrel. For now, it's solid, but if I want a strong coffee stout I'll probably reach for something from Founders instead.

Not a bad breakfast stout. Abv is super well hidden in a dense, smooth beverage. None of the flavors really pop but its a pleasant stout no doubt. A little on the sweet side for me but nothing nearing true pastry territory.

Black coffee colored with little head to speak of, just a wisp of bubbles and a mocha rim
Mild sweetened coffee, slightly nutty nose. Very muted
Taste follows but a little more pronounced. Coffee, sweetened, bit of nutty character.
Mourhfeel is full and smooth and somewhat sticky. Very decadent tasting.

Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. Tan, half finger's width head that doesn't stay too long before dying to a barren surface. No lacing. Not uncommon with coffee infused brews.

Smell - Oh wow, that is enticing. This has layers. Coffee is obvious, and prominent.

Taste - Follows the nose. It first hits you with that just-roasted-right coffee, adding some dark chocolate to set the base. Then the sweetness comes. A touch of caramel before butterscotch and maple emerge to dance on that dark, black floor that never gives. A hint of vanilla emerges in the finish, and the it's waves of dark and sweet character fighting it out as it dies down in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Near full-bodied with low carbonation. Slick, creamy and with just a hint of stickiness, but damn smooth on the finish. 13.1%? Huh.

Overall - For the amount sweet notes being presented here, it's surprisingly balanced. Credit the roast and deep, dark chocolate notes for keeping this thing so tied together. This is a hard review to write because I don't want to think critically about it, I just wanna enjoy it. It's amazing!
