Helles translates into “bright” in German and is the light colored alternative to a Dunkel in the southern region of Germany. Our Helles offers a crisp and clean taste with a medium body that is both thirst quenching and refreshing. With a mild grainy aroma and frothy white head, this supreme example of the classic German lager is a beautiful pale yellow with medium carbonation and is served in both liter and half-liter sizes.

A: Pours a clear gold with a thin, creamy white mousse that lingers far longer than one would expect.
S: Mild aromas of grass, lemon, crackers, biscuits, minerals, straw, hay, grain, and honey express themselves on the nose.
T: Gentle, delicate flavors of biscuits, crackers, straw, hay, grain, and honey are deftly balanced by notes of minerals, lemon, grass, and herbs. The finish is balanced with notes of grain, honey, biscuits, minerals, and grass.
M: Full-bodied and dry. Carbonation is crisp. While most American attempts at this style are slight, waxy, and overcarbonated, Blue Stallion gets it just right. The fullness of the body does not make this the most sessionable Helles out there, but it does lend an authentic feel that is sorely lacking in many New World takes on this style.
O: A very authentic, solidly executed Helles. While I would like to see a thicker, bubblier head in the glass, pretty much everything else about this beer is right on point. If you are a fan of German lagers, then you will probably like this one, but if you are not a lager person, then this will not do much for you.

As Lexington's German minded brewers step into the light side of beer, the time honored Munich Helles showcases what Blue Stallion Brewing Company does well.
Its delicate floral aroma and soft early taste of baking bread and honeysuckle are all showcased in the light lager's brilliant gold hues and its cottony froth. Fresh kilned cereal grain and mild orchard fruit emerge just before middle palate.
That's when the floral taste turns fruity with light apple and lemon, as soft sulfur reaffirms its apple character. Woven into a weave of part malt and part grain, the lager trends dry and spicy even on the soft palate.
Its finish is crisp, clean and refreshing- displaying a fleeting malt taste and leaving a slight grain-derived astringency on the palate. Nearly minty, its hop character closes with firm peppery bitterness with straw and fresh-cut grass.
What's great about the German light lager is that it never offends, polarizes or alienates. Yet likewise, it gives imbibers little to adore.
