In like a lion, out like a lamb. April showers, may flowers- the spring season is full of predictions and quirks. And a taste that's delicate in fruit and spice, with a strength that's deceptive and powerful, this spring is crammed pack with delicacy and strength thanks to Blue Stallion breweries and LexBeerScene's Chris Vandergirft in collaboration.
The bright golden glow reveals hardly a haze at all. A frothy, creamy but short head crowns the rim and delivers a bright bouquet of fruit, spice and caky-sweet scents to the nose. To taste, the savory, lightly toasted, nutty flavors are laced with honey and angel-food sweetness.
With the honey and soft cashew creaminess in tow, its the fruitiness of pear, apple, orange, cantaloupe and apricot that leap out immediately, but with the quick rebuttal of white pepper, coriander, black pepper, clove and light cumin. Creamy and floral to taste, the finish is minty, lightly of soap and with a moderate zing of white wine and cider.
Medium-full on the tongue, the beer's relaxed carbonation gives the ale added weight and a fuller appreciation of sweetness, perhaps at the sacrifice of dryness or drinkability. Finishing lightly toasty, peppery and winey the warmth of alcohol lightens the body and ushers in an aftertaste of fennel and ouzo.
