Strike the sign of the goat! ...not because a seance is immanent, but that the beer of the goat is before us. Blue Stallion pulls through with a seldom seen standard bock strength lager with a savory, toasted and richer profile that's a testament to the yesteryear of better beer.
Bock Sabbath comes with a rich golden color, striking a light amber tone through the center. Capped with a soapy cream froth, the beer's scent is of toasted sweetness, floral honeysuckle and a very mild tea-like hop spice. Squarely focused on a rich and complex malt flavor, the early palate is sweet and savory with cashew, honey, mild toast and an elegant off-caramel rich taste that separate the style from the usual pilsner.
The middle palate shows a steadfastness of malt sweetness and toasted taste, but a slight fruitiness of apple, lemon and apricot adds to the complexity of malt without overshadowing its elegant savoriness. Herbal with notes of tea, mint and a fine parsley-like grassiness, the hops only take a light edge off of the sweetness and would never attempt to rival it.
A light cereal graininess comes through the finish as the alcohol lightens the malt profile and gives the beer a fantastic sense of drinkability and refreshment despite is malty sweet focus. A medium length aftertaste of honey, toast and tea has the senses chasing the next sip, stein after stein.
