Incredible smoothness and the soothing effects of almond and vanilla lead the Blue Stallion brewers down a path of roasty, succulent and savory excellence. So when in Kentucky, you do what Kentuckians do and just add bourbon.
Long Time Lurker expounds upon their Velvet Lurker by hitting senses hard with the bourbonesque punch of ether. Spices tingle the nose and await a balanced scent of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and nuttiness to calm down the booze. Very dark brown, the bourbon barrels have bleached the tar-like appearance of the original while a scant froth mounts on top. Molasses and toffee layer on the tongue with a savory, and robust malt sweetness to start the show.
As the flavors develop on the middle palate, the robust roast of dark french press coffee, bittersweet chocolate, walnut and toasted almond begin to control the taste while the sweetness turns to a wonderful burnt marshmallow flavor. Heavy cream, vanilla and caramel lead to a sweet and spicy finish equipped with toasted coconut, charred nutty oak and the peppery nuances that bourbon brings.
Full bodied and lavishly sweet on the late palate, the bourbon spice adds a sense of dryness to the original Lurker and lessens its body just a touch. But the additions of whisky spice, wood, tannins, sugars and earth that the barrels apply adds a higher degree of charm, complexity and challenge.
