Trendy, inventive and quite controversial, the brewery that hangs their hat on traditional European styles jumps onto the hazy bandwagon with a New England styled IPA that infuses the character of Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado hops for a taste that's too hard to resist. But that's ok, I'm sure its just a phase.
Turbid, golden and sticky on the glass, the heavy yeast haze leaves the beer with a matte, scrambled egg appearance. Juicy aromas roll onto the nose with the expected hit of citrus, tropical fruit, melon and botanical herbs. Early sweetness graces the tongue with pastry maltiness with a pep of honey.
Fruit impressions from the hops roll onto the middle palate and brighten the lingering malts. Leading with tangerine, the taste is soon joined with red grapefruit, passionfruit, kiwi, cantaloup and a tantalizing pineapple whimsy. Trending herbal and sprucy, the late palate of muddled grasses, sassafras and juniper berry shifts the ale into a mildly drying character.
Medium bodied and smoothly bitter in finish, the fruit flavors stray from juiciness and into a dry, spicy and rind-like taste. Spruce brightness translates to a finish of gin spice and black tea with a linger of blackcurrant and hemp providing echoes into a medium length aftertaste.
