Blue Stallion Brewing further strengthens their relationship with local homebrewers, teaming up with a "Brewer of the Month" for both inspiration and imagination. A cocoa and orange stout takes the lead with the help of homebrewer, Josh Stitzer.

As black as you'd expect a stout to be, the nearly espresso looking beer comes with a rich mocha froth and a roasty set of aromatics that hinge on dark roast coffee, burnt toast and campfire with a decoration of dark chocolate and citrus. Mild sweetness of caramel and other burnt sugars lay a sweet and toasty foundation to start.

Much of the sweetness is scared off of the middle palate, chased away by the roasted grains. Burnt flavors of embers, toast and sugars offer a carbonized kick with flavors of espresso, cocoa and black walnut in tow. Its chocolate additions are dry and dark, blending into the roasted grains like a coffeehouse mocha Americano. The taste of citrus brings a brightness to the late palate in a familiar flavor combination of chocolate and orange.

Broadly bitter with smoldering embers and an overall woodsy taste, a finish of mild brushfire and pine pulls from the roasted grains and the citrus for a decidedly dark coffee character that carries the entire palate from sip to finish. Good job Josh!
