Somebody que that Taylor Swift song because everyone at the Blue Stallion brewery is on the shake. Buried underneath the strawberry and milk sugar additions is a New England styled IPA fueled with Ekuanot hops.
Running out of names, the Fantastic Pun! skirts by any naming dilemmas but doesn't skimp on aroma. Obvious red berries leap right out, but not far behind are citrus, tropical, melon and pleasant vegetal aromas from hops and a cream of wheat scent that carries over to taste. Light honey, croissant and agave provide a malty perspective to start.
But as the sweetness gives way, it's the do-it-all hop varietal that takes over with honeydew, green berries, and tangy under ripened orange flavors for a succulent but juicy taste. Developing a neon green taste that's common to wet-hopped beer, a fresh herbal taste opens up to fresh spruce, gin-like botanicals and green papaya. Moderate bitterness pulls from the herbal and piney flavors for a smooth bitterness that offsets the milk sugars.
All the while, a red berry flavor more akin to redcurrant rather than strawberry casts a fog of flavor over the medium bodied beer. Light gin alcohols add spice and lightness to suggest that the beer continues a drying track. A medium length aftertaste of wheat, berry and cream keep the milkshake character alive and well even in the beer's waning moments.
