Presentation: 12oz twist-off top brown bottle. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pale yellow with a bubbly, patchy white cream head. Falls to a ring lace, that stays to the end.

Smell: A little bit of fruity bubble gum, very faint banana and grain in the aroma.

Taste: Very light in body with fizzy to smooth mouthfeel. Hits with a seltzer-water like carbonation, light lemony bitter bite and background mineral/salt flavours. Malt pulls-thru with sweet, slightly fruity, grain flavours. A lingering hop floral taste trails behind with some stewed veggies (DMS), and the beer wraps things up rather clean with light grain residuals.

Notes: A good drink, and a decent stab a an American Pilsner. Some might find this to be a bit bland though.

Quite the easy drinker here. Very clean and crisp, with a touch of astringency. Some grainy flavors peek through, but within reason. Hopping is light, but the finish is smooth. Yet another entry in the lawnmower beer category, and rates fairly well within that crowd. Not terribly flavorful, but a good laid-back beer.

Pours clear light golden in color. A medium fizzy white head forms that disappears within seconds. I smell some noble hops, but not enough. Taste is not bad, not great. Medium body with a really neutral taste. Not bitter or malty. If anything, I think I get more malt than hops in this one. Just a titch of lemon on the tongue too. Pretty easy drinking though. Average pilsner.

I've just rated the Golden Pilsner from Sam Adams tonight and this brew is not in Sammy's league.

Clear yellow, poor fizzy head that vanishes to a spidery trace in 20 seconds. Light sense of unmalted grain to the smell, otherwise very reserved. Body is thin but very bubbly to my tongue -- taste starts out slightly sweet with a touch of grape and the carbonation and a decent crisp hop finish the brew's impression. I like the finish of this beer better than its up-front characteristics, but still, there's not much overall impact. A little too carbonated to be highly drinkable.

Golden hued, if perhaps more dilute and yellow-seeming than some. The head is modest and white and fades quickly.
Nose exihibits a lightly sweet graininess, touches of apples and a whole lotta nothing else. This doesn't smell anything like a Pils. It smells like Coors Light.
Begins with that same sweet hued grain. Like some sort of honeyed breakfast cereal. There are traces of Berghoff's persistent bubblegummy yeast, but it is tempered here compared to most. Ends continually grainy without any notice from the hops.
Thin bodied with uppity carbonation. There is no malt/hop structure to even comment on.
This is macro-level quality, at best.

Ugh...already not looking forward to reviewing this one after my experience with the other beers in the Berghoff lineup. I feel like I'm taking one for the team with this one.

Brewed with 2-row, Carapils, and Caramel malts. Hopped with Galena.

4.9% ABV, OG=10.8, 10 IBU's.

Pours out to a limpid caramel, full of disgusting sediment like rust spots in the sink from a 1940's cabin. Absolutely no head to speak of with no retention or lacing. An absolutely disgusting loking beer. Carbonation is mild to moderate. The aroma is diacetyl and caramelized sugar. No hops, no malt. Mouthfeel is average, fizzy, medium-bodied. Taste is of sour caramelized sugar whilst sucking on dirty pennies. Chemical taste in the finish reminds me of cheap booze. I can't take any more. This is absolutely awful. One of the worst beers I've ever had, and not even close to being a pilsner. Down the sink. I'd rather drink Olde English 800 than this garbage.

Stay away from Berghoff at all cost. Their beers blow.

12 oz brown long neck

Beer pours a very pale yellow. Nice head that fades fairly quickly. Slight lacing on the glass. Nice carbonation.

The smell is not bad, you can pick-up some hops, some spice notes but a little ester smell also kicks in.

Tastes very clean, could use more hops to kick it up a notch. Not a bad beer, just not a great beer. Mouth feel is a little thin. Some ester taste as well. The hop/malt balance of the beer is fine. As you drink more, a little spice comes through, still needs more hops. This was better when I had it on tap at the Berghoff Restaurant in Chicago.

This is not the best of the Berghoff brews. It is very drinkable and you could down a bunch. I did like the price of $6.99 for a 12 pack, at that price its more than ok.

The Berghoff Classic Pilsner, labelled 4.9% abv on the import tag. Silver and blue (nearly teal) label. I'm feeling a little gun shy now after my experience with Berghoff's Genuine Dark beer after all the others in the line I've sampled thus far, my trust has been shattered, I'm wary now.

This pilsner pours out a pale golden colour, a splash of head at first, but it's quickly sent packing. The aroma is...Moosehead. Smells just like Moosehead to me. I check the bottle. Nope, blue and silver Berghoff label. Okay then. Sweet aroma, light grain and sweet corn on the nose, no discernable hops, no metallic grains. The flavour has that sweet corn characteristic to it as well, with a bit of nondescript grain, some light bitter hops popping up in the middle rather than on the finish. Long after it's been swallowed there is a slight herbal/metallic aftertaste that lingers. Not at all what I have in mind for a pilsener, even an artisan interpretation of it. Just more banal dreck from Berghoff, generically dumbed down styles to woo away a macro market with shiny labels and words like "Classic", "Genuine", "Original" or "Famous". Don't believe the hype.

Pours a deep yellow gold. A wispy white head with no staying power or lace.

Aroma affords just a bit of sweet graininess.
With a hint of butterscotch that makes me fear diacetyl.

The taste, however, is sweet and pleasant. Not as crisp and refreshing as I'd expect a Pilsner to be. Finish is... well, funky.

I give this brew average marks based on my nostalgia for Huber Brewing. I grew up with Rhinelander and Regal Brau.

The Berghoff Classic Pilsner pours into my pint glass a clear dark yellow with a orange tint and a small fizzy soda pop head that quickly falls. Aromas of sweet cereal grains and pale malt along with fresh cut grass and herbal hops. Maybe some corn as well. Nothing really special here.

First sip brings a fairly sweet maltiness accentuated by cereal grains, light fruit flavors and a hint of caramel. The grassy herbally hops show up on the way down to somewhat round out the flavor. A fairly boring pilsner that reminds me much more of an adjunct lager than anything else.

Mouthfeel is light with a steady flow of carbonation...this one goes down easily as it's quite watery. Nothing really seperates this from the pack. I could see it being a good lawnmower beer..but even then I think I'd pick something else. If this wants to be a German Pilsener is definetly needs some work!

Appearance: Pours a clear, pale yellow body with a medium white head. Yes sir, it doesn't get any sweeter than this!

Smell: Aroma of light grains marked by a mild, though distinct cooked vegetable scent.

Taste: Light, sweet graininess with an equally light touch of herbaceous hops. More DMS picked up on the quick finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation. Watery mouthfeel.

Drinkability: There's numerous examples of fine pilseners out there. This just isn't one of them.

Appearance - Pale light gold with a soapy white head. Clear. Head lingers a few minutes before disappearing into a thin film.

Smell - Light malt.

Taste - Sweet malts dominate, hops only vaguely present. Very light and watery. Tastes like a macrolager.

Mouthfeel - Thin.

Drinkability - Crisp and clean tasting like a macrolager - not like a pilsner. Not offensive tasting, but this beer is not in the style it claims. If you drink Michelob Ultra this might be an upgrade, otherwise avoid.

Eye: Poor. Need I say more. Color and clarity are fine, to be expected. No dense rich foamy, creamy, or rocky head. As a matter of fact, no head at all. No lacing, no film that even covers the beer. Seriously, I've seen macros that pour better. The beer looks like its teetering on a tightrope, on one side lies death the other life as a quadriplegic vegetable in a just looks so lifeless.

Nose: Lots of sweet malt aromas in this beer, not too much in the way of hops. I'm not really getting the spicy hop character that I've been craving the past few days, the craving which led me to buy this/a pils. Very disappointed in the aroma of this beer. Too much sweet malt aroma-all backbone and no hops...just the aroma of pils, two, or six row barley malt. Not interesting, not satisfying.

Tongue: Just as the aroma, very little in the way of hop flavor, and very little in the way of bittering as well. You just can't win with this beer. The beer is very malt oriented with a taste that quickly leaves the mouth. I'll say that it is very clean. And I'll also say that there are some hop flavors present, however, by the time they hit the palate the slight spiciness coming from them is washed away by the carbonation. I'll say that there is some classic pils taste in here, but this isn't worth your time. Maybe now that I've had a bit more of this brew, it becomes more apparent, the familiar drying flavor, some spice flavor. Still though I feel that this beer is seriously lacking. Seems to me that this beer's grain bill contains a healthy amount of rice or corn.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: Light bodied in the mouth with scrubbing heavy obtrusive carbonation. Bland, nothing worth mentioning....I guess you can't expect that much from a beer that is 6.49 a really can't expect it to be a good craft beer now can you? This beer is not worth your time, money, effort, and definitely not worthy of being called a craft brew. This is one that I'll not buy again ever, I may give the rest of the line a try but this beer just sucks. I'll not say to steer clear of this beer but I'll just tell you that it flat out sucks, don't expect anything from it.

Crystal clear piss yellow from a bottle with no freshness date. Patchy white head that disappeared quickly leaving a white ring and some sticky lacing.

All I'm getting for an aroma is good old macro lager corn...bleh!

See above for taste. Very sweet with a slight metallic aftertaste.

Lacks the bite that some beers of this ilk have so I score it slightly below average on mouthfeel.

Once again...bleh!

This beer was poured into a pint glass at 43° from a 12 ounce bottle. A code was stamped on the bottle but no apparent date information. One and a half fingers of carbonated head were produced from the pour with a lot of bubbles hanging on to the inside of the glass. The beer was clear and a pale yellow color.

I sensed a clean yeasty smell at first with an off citrus or floral bouquet later on.

There was a slight bitterness to start with some slight yeast picking up afterwards.

This was a light refreshing pilsner which did not stay long nor did it require repeated attempts to analyze the feel. It was short and 'sweet' and to the point.

This was an adequate beer with no off tastes and would provide a good foray into the session beer endeavors.

A- Poured to a light yellow color, that had a white head that didnt last long. Had a little I mean little lacing.
S- Smelled a little like bananas and citrus. There wasnt a lot of smell here period.
T- There really wasnt a lot of taste. Just a little taste of bananas. Then again, a very little taste. Almost like drinking water.
M- Felt like water in the mouth. I thought the carbonation was a little too much.
D- I wont buy these again. There wasnt any flavor that you would crave. Berghoff really makes some good beers. This isnt one of them.
