Happy to be 3rd reviewer of Berghoff IPA my 890th.
On tap at their bar in Ohare.
A - Pours a very dark caramel orange with a tinge of haze and lots of carbonation, with a half finger of frothy khaki head, that laces well in the cold pint.
S - Follows the candied caramel orange look but entirely too Faint. . Earthy, fallen wood, herbal, damp, fall with some back ground toffee malts.
T - Taste follows the aroma: but more sweet & creamy, with notes of candied orange peel, caramel, toffee, wood, fallen leaves, and earth. Sweet for an IPA with more sweet than bitter, but good food complement.
M - Feel is smooth, tangy, crisp & yet creamy. Lots of tingle and carbonation.
O - Surprising sweet take on IPA. Solid bar beer.

12 fl oz. can, no canned on date or freshness information present. Acquired a single can of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack at the local Binny's.
Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.
A - Pours a dark candied caramel orange body, tons of sediment visible in the glass, apt carbonation, with two big fluffy fingers of dense frothy khaki-tan head. Leaves lots of good spotty fluffy lacing on the glass. Not your typical IPA appearance, especially by today's filtered standards, but it looks excellent.
S - A candied caramel orange nose. Earthy, twiggy, herbal, damp. Notes of cream. Definitely not a citrus or juice forward resinous hop bomb. Notes of candied orange peel, and sweetened caramel / toffee malts.
T - Taste follows the nose: sweet & creamy, with notes of candied orange, caramel, toffee, wood, earth, & cream. Perhaps this is an over the hill can, but I am actually quite enjoying this one regardless. Sometimes I enjoy a good malt-forward IPA offering, and this one is hitting the spot. Subtle notes of oranges & peach flesh on the finish.
M - Feel is smooth crisp & creamy. A medium-light body, with good carbonation. Easy-drinking stuff.
Overall, well enough for what it is. A decent offering from Berghoff; one of the best I have had from them. Glad I picked this one up.

I picked up a bottle of Berghoff's IPA last week for $1.79 at Boyne Country Provisions. I'm in the mood for an IPA today and I thought I would take a chance on this one, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
A- The label looks ok, it's a little plaint and it's not too eye catching. It poured a copper amber color that took on more of an amber hue when held to the light with a fingers worth of light tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a little bit of patchy lacing behind. This was a nice looking beer.
S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness and it starts off with the malts being the first to show up and they impart some grainy, bready and caramel malt like aromas with some doughy yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the hops which impart some earthy, floral and slightly spicy hop aromas. The aroma is ok, but it seems to be pretty average for the style.
T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a lower amount of medium sweetness with the malts being the first to show up and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma with the caramel malts seeming to stick out the most and there's still a lit bit of doughy yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the hops which impart the same floral, earthy and spicy aspects that they did in the aroma with all the aspects showing up pretty evenly. On the finish there's a lighter amount of medium bitterness with a little bit of a watery IPA aftertaste. Taste is ok, but just like the aroma, it's very average for the style.
M- Smooth, very crisp, a little prickly, on the light side of being medium bodied with a high amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel wasn't that great, it was over carbonated.
Overall I thought this beer was just OK and I thought it was a very average IPA, nothing about it was memorable and it did have a couple off aspects that hurt it in the end. This beer didn't have the best drinkability, one is enough for me, no need for another one. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance, it's a good looking beer. What I like the least about this beer is the mouthfeel, it's just over carbonated. I wouldn't buy this beer again unless I knew it was very fresh and I wouldn't recommend it. All in all I just wasn't a big fan of this beer, nothing stuck out about and just about every aspect was average. It's one of my least favorite beers from this brewery and it's average at best for the style. This one needs some work, better luck next time guys.

On tap, poured into a shaker. The aroma is a sweet, with notes of toffee and candy citrus, an undertone that’s slightly funky, and a slightly burnt bread crust secondary note. It pours clear with a caramel hue, and is topped by a light tan, dense soap head that has good retention and lace. The taste is a blend of medium sweet slightly less bitter. It’s creamy, with a supporting, soft foam carbonation. The medium light body has flavors of berries, toffee, grapefruit, candy sugar, and bread and it finishes crisp and clean with a light, fresh spice and pine. Some wax appears and lingers in the aftertaste as well as bread crust.
