.5l bottle from Tavour. Dark, cloudy amber, off white foamy head. Aroma is brett and wine barrel. Malts take over in the taste, light sweet caramel, with a little tartness from the brett. Slight dryness.

Look: Hazy, swampy dark orange. Small ring of off-white head around the edges.
Smell: The distinctive sour brett smell, mild juniper, honey, fruit.
Taste: Surprisingly mild. Dry juniper, a little sour funk, and some gentle bitterness on the back end.
Mouthfeel: Smooth, average body. Little to no noticeable carbonation.
Overall: A pretty unique beer that could be used as an easy introduction to brettanomyces for a newbie.

This is a challenge to review for several reasons. These two are enough.
First, I am the first reviewer. This is bottle #114 of 440 made. I hope someone chimes in and gives this effort a fair shake.
Second, this is only my second sahti and, thus, pretend no expertise. The other was Off Color's Bare Bear, which was tame and without aging or brett. (I liked it several times and rated it 5.3% above the BA average.)
We (Ode and I) Looked each other in the eye, poker-faced. But in one sniff, Ode showed his cards: a brett straight. (Ode doesn't know I'm brett adverse...and don't read labels as well as I should.) Tastes tell the Truth (I'll say that for Ode.) I'll also say that while it resists letting my buds alone, Ode does grow on me a bit. But to be fair, I'll cap it save some for tomorrow. Next day it is slightly better, the barrel-aging can be appreciated a bit more; the rough edges are smoothed a bit. But the conclusion is the same: pine and juniper together is different enough; don't brett them so much. Keep it simple.
This is my second from MobCraft. I think their idea of collectivity is cool and I hope they make it. But finding a market niche for Ode will be big-time work. So.... BA guys... step up, buy this Brett and review your Ode.
