On draft at PapPo's. Poured out a very, very dark brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of bourbon, vanilla, oak, toffee and sweet caramel. Strong, smoke peat taste with toffee, caramel, oak and vanilla.

Bottled on 2/21/2018.Pours a murky amber/brown with a a half finger deep tan colored head atop.I need a really aggressive swirl to get mild vanilla tinged bourbon, slightly hot alcohol, and toast in the nose.Flavors start with vanilla/caramel and dark fruit with underlying bourbon,a decent drying earthiness comes in the finish keeping it from becoming cloying.Not bad but it lacks some complexity wich would make it really good.

22 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 3/28/16, had 11/4/16.
Pours a dark brown, a little garnet around the edges, mostly opaque, with a half inch foamy head, some loose foamy lacing. Active carbonation. Smell is caramel, malt, figs, dates, rum, smoke, light cherries, maple when fully warmed. The taste is a little more malt forward, caramel, plums, butterscotch, light rum- more as it warms, smoke, some oak, a light hop bitterness throughout, a little alcohol warming. Smooth, a solid medium body. well carbonated.
Well balanced, the rum is a nice twist on the style- not too strong, but integral. Enjoyed this a lot, good price point. Grab it if they do it again.

$ 9.89/bomber ($ 0.45/oz) at Oppermann’s Cork-N-Ale, Saginaw, MI
Bottled on March 28th, 2016 at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – malt and rum, sweet
Head – small (Maximum one cm, aggressive pour), light brown, fizzy/frothy, rapidly diminishing to two mm ring and scummy partial layer
Lacing - none
Body – dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – starts lightly sweet, malty. Rum less noticeable than in the nose, some rapidly fading alcohol heat; no hops, no diacetyl
Palate – medium, creamy, soft carbonation
An OK scotch ale, smooth, but not showing the rum well except in the nose. Perhaps another bottle with some more time on it …
Appearance 3.75, Aroma 4, Flavor 3.75, Palate 3.75, Overall 3.75

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 3/28/2016. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, rum, vanilla, toasted oak, biscuit, light chocolate/cocoa, raisin, plum, fig, apple, wood smoke, leather, herbal, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/smoked malt, fruity yeast, rum barrel, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, rum, vanilla, toasted oak, biscuit, light chocolate/cocoa, raisin, plum, fig, apple, wood smoke, leather, herbal, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate rum/oak spiciness and herbal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, rum, vanilla, toasted oak, biscuit, dark fruits, light chocolate/cocoa, wood smoke, leather, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malt, fruity yeast, rum barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from rum/oak spiciness as well. Light carbonation and medium-full body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish, and no barrel booziness. Overall this is an excellent rum barrel aged Scotch ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/smoked malt, fruity yeast, rum barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
