I'm a big fan of Black IPAs and this was disappointing. Little to no aroma or the mouth feel I expect from that style.

Had a $6 pint at Boat Works in St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
Haven't heard of this brewery, but thought I'd go in blind and give it a shot. As it turned out, this was a very nice beer. While many Black IPAs are super bitter and hop heavy making them impossible to describe as "drinkable" ... this beer really is drinkable. A lot of hops of course, but a really nice roasty character that is missing far too often in Black IPAs. Drinkable, but still has a nice amount of flavor. This is almost, dare I say, sessionable? Great balance of roasted malt and fresh hop flavor, which is hard to find for many in the style. Solid all-around.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
